Do any of you have experience with this cartridge? I'm thinking of this for a light rifle for Africa. What loads do you recommend? Looks like this cartridge is "Germany's 30-06". Thanks, Terry
Don't know why it wouldn't do just fine. You can get 150 grain bullets up to about 2900 fps and 175's up to 2700 fps without straining anything. Nosler has a new ballistic tip in 180 grain which should be an excellent game bullet in the 8 x 57. '06 brass reforms into 8 x 57 with a single pass.
I killed my first deer with an 8 x 57 in a late-war model '98, so the cartridge is kind of a sentimental favorite with me.

I used the 8x57 for moose when I started to hunt. The rifle was my fathers old one but worked real good. I used Normas standard Alaska bullets and on moose they performed well.

Hello Austin TX, I live south of you and use an 8x57 to hunt deer with. I reload w/N150 @51.5gr. and cci primers, 180Nosler ballistic tip. Safe in my rifle, work up loads.
