Do any of you have experience with this cartridge? I'm thinking of this for a light rifle for Africa. What loads do you recommend? Looks like this cartridge is "Germany's 30-06".
Thanks,
Terry

Don't know why it wouldn't do just fine. You can get 150 grain bullets up to about 2900 fps and 175's up to 2700 fps without straining anything. Nosler has a new ballistic tip in 180 grain which should be an excellent game bullet in the 8 x 57. '06 brass reforms into 8 x 57 with a single pass.

I killed my first deer with an 8 x 57 in a late-war model '98, so the cartridge is kind of a sentimental favorite with me.

I used the 8x57 for moose when I started to hunt. The rifle was my fathers old one but worked real good. I used Normas standard Alaska bullets and on moose they performed well.

I have a 8mm mauser, it likes 175 grainers. You'll have no problem shooting anything the 30-06 will shoot. Good luck!

I have a Mauser Vergueiro in 8x57 and use it on pigs. I shoot 170gr Winchester factory loads and they knock the pigs over quick smart.
