I've been looking for a small caliber varmint rifle and just made a trade for a Remington 700 VSS in 22-250. The rifle has less than 500 rounds and is a shooter - I'm psyched.

This will be my first Remington and my first dedicated varmint rifle. I put a Leupold 6.5x-20x, 40mm AO with a varmint reticle. My question is if I do my part and put in plenty of trigger time and load development, what is the rig capable of? Other than punching paper I plan to use it for coyotes in Indiana farm country.

You can kill all kinds of stuff with it. Paper targets up to deer and hogs. You are only limited by your imagination and the critters that live in your area.
Rem 700's can be dogs, and can also be very accurate. Load up some rounds, shoot and find out.

Woodchucks and coyotes etc.out to 700+ yds. The right load and a range finder; it's like cheating!

Believe you will be impressed with the performance of both the Remington and the caliber. Rebarreled mine to 7 and 8 twists to handle the heavier bullets, 69's to 90's and delivers fine accuracy at all ranges out to the 1000yd mark. You will hear some complaints about short barrel life, but not found that the case for I do not load wide open throttle. Running 30grains of Varget, Lapua brass, Fed210M primers and load same for 69's up through the 90's. No felt recoil, easy to load for, and accurate, what more could you want??

If the rifle is a stock Remington it is a 1in14
twist. That will limit you to 55gr bullets.I have had great luck with IMR4064 and RL15.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

IF YOU'RE GONNA GET OLD,YOU BETTER BE TOUGH!! GETTIN' OLD AIN'T FOR SISSIES!!

Thanks for the feedback. I am getting pretty psyched to have the rifle in hand. In terms of loads, you have pretty much nailed his the loads he developed for the rifle. His best group with the rifle is .376 at 300-yards shooting 50 gr. Vmax bullets.
