have a hankering for something new.
I thinking that may be filled with a .14 hornet based off a CZ527.
What does it take to do a switch barrel rifle? I'd hate to have to donate my .22 hornet. Kinda fond of that rifle. Good critter shooter.
Ideas on the .14 hornet.
Thoughts welcomed.

I know of a couple 14 cal barrel blanks a fellow has for sale. $200 which is the best price I know of for those little buggers.

As a small-caliber nut, I am all for your project... there are other small caliber in the .17 range which are more practical, look at the 17 squirrel for example Smiler

As for other 17 calibers. YES and NO-
I am currently shooting the 17 ackley bee and 17 Mach IV (yes, it's one of the old Mach IV not the Fireball)
I've checked out the 17 squirrel, 17 mink and the shrew. Those all look fun also, there is an interest there.
This weekend I've been doing the internet time studying the different rounds.
I'm leaning more towards the 14/221. Why, I've got the brass- I'm partially the way there on the forming dies. That would save a stack of money for the forming.
theback40- can you pass on more info concerning the barrels your buddy has?

nope, the 14 squirrel is based off of the parent hornet case just like the 14 hornet.
The squirrel would be nice. a tad to much trimming for me.

2-4 months out. went for the 14/221 walker. Time to load everything else up I have and shoot those, load them again .. repeat.. wait some more. shoot some more.. wait...repeat that part to.
Lets see if it makes it sooner than the later

I am in total awe here..

if you can handload those little 14 caliber bullets... my fat fingers and poor eyesight, I go nuts trying to load the 17 Fireball for an elderly friend who has one..

I have a Ruger 77/22H that I made into a 17 Ack Hornet as the one I did on an old beater Mod 43 would just not handle the pressures. Shooting S.O.B! Then I got a wild hair up my ? and made it into a 14 Ack Hornet with a reamer I got off You Know what?Bay. It is pure hell on crows and such. One coyote so far but only a short 90 yd shot. Spendy because of the infrastructure needed to shoot these little things but after you get the dies etc the real expenditure is bullets. Aside from this? MORE fun than a person is entitled to!!

You might check over on the Saubier forum. They are "small" caliber junkies over there.
