Sirs,

I'm going hunting with a 6.5-284 (not the 280 Rem; long story) but need more than the 10 cases that come with the rifle.

I want to load 140gr SGK.

Is the Norma brass a good substitute? How about the Nosler Custom stuff?

Thanks,
Jimno

The Norma 6.5 X 284 brass is soft. I have some I don't like for that reason alone. After 3 or four firings the primer pockets are loose. Lapua brass doesn't do that. I tried the Hornaday, for my purposes, long range matches the quality was not there. Lapua is THE brass for a 6.5 X 284. From what I am hearing it will be December before it is available again. For a 140 gr. load use H4350 with a Federal 210 primer. The 140 Sierra GameKing is very accuate bullet that has performed very well for me on game. I have yet to recover one them. If your chamber was cut with a reamer set up for the Norma or Lapua brass I can probably hook you up with 50 pieces of Norma brass if you can't find any of it either.

6.5-284 Black Hills anyone? Since they load the ammunition for the service teams and offer it in their catalog, I expect this is the best way to go.

did you try calling sinclair?? they usually have a TON of lapua brass in stock.

The norma will be a better choice for accuracy work as they are better than american brass,..albeit softer.

If nothing else,..order winchester 284win brass and run it through the sizer die to neck it down.

You might try Huntington Die Specialty. They show it for 80.00 /100 but couldn`t tell if it was a backorder or not. Good Luck, I use the Winchester myself with no problems.

Wait........

Lapua is worth the wait. The second best brass made, a close second to RWS.

Norma is a good quality maker, but a semi-distant third.

The rest well I'll just keep my trap shut.
