NOTE: I also have this posted over in the reloading section, so if you go over there, don't answer it twice.

My son has a new .257 Wby Mag (Vanguard) and the ammo that shoots well in mine and my son-in-law's will not group well in his. We've been using RL22 with Hornady 117 grain interlocks and mine also shoots the 100 grain Sierra GameKings real well. I've tried a number of different charge weights with this two bullets but can only get about 1.5" groups at 100 yds. Mine and my son-in-law's shoots sub MOA. If you were going to try a different powder, what would be your first choice, H or IMR 4831? I'm thinking it is more of a powder problem than a bullet problem since it won't shoot the Hornady or Sierras very well; however, if you were going to try a different bullet, what would it be? I'm looking for tight groups and am not particularly worried about speed, as almost all loads for the .257 Wby Mag have plenty of speed for our whitetail deer in SE Oklahoma. Your advice will be deeply appreciated.

IMR-7828 is THE powder for the 257 WBY. 110gr Accubonds work really well in mine.

In my experience, RL-22, RL-25 and IMR-7828 are all highly suitable in the .257 Weatherby. I get better accuracy with RL-25 in my Mk-V, but in my short-throated Ruger I have best results with IMR-7828. Try both.

I had bought and sold mine before Accubonds were invented but 110 gr Partitions and 7828 were a fantastic combination.

71.5gr with the accubond and probably 70 with the other.

Another very good powder in the .257 weatherby ,is Ramshot magnum.
Have you taken deer with that 100 grain sierra in the .257 yet ?
seems to me it might blow up on impact at that speed.
I need to shoot that bullet some more in my .257 roberts...tj3006

I use Barnes TSX 100 grain pills however. 7828 works very well from mine which is a Vanguard Stainless Sporter.

Loaded some shells for a buddy with Norma MRP2 and the Barnes TSX 100 grain. He shot some big boar with that load in Turkey.

+1, RL-25 with 120gr Hrn Interlocks do .5MOA in mine.
