What is the max velocity Berger VLDs will stand? I'm interested in getting something to shoot the 75gr VLD quite quickly but need accuracy too. Early conversations have thrown up that the VLD can't take the full velocity potential of the Swift 3,300 fps without poor accuracy or coming apart. Also that 9 twist is marginal as a 9 twist barrel may be 9.5 twist. I have been reccomended to buy a 8.5 twist.

I shoot the Berger 80 grain VLD's in my 22-250 Ack Imp. Depending on the powder, I can get from 3100 to 3300 fps and haven't had any problems. Because of the length of the VLD's, you would be safer going with a 1-8 twist. A tad bit faster than optimum is better than a bit slower. I tried some 6mm VLD's in my .243 which has a 1-9.5" twist and they would not stabilize.
If you have a concern about the bullet coming apart you could always drop Walt Berger an e-mail. He has always been superb about answering all my stupid questions.
By the way, my best results with the VLD bullets has been to follow the recommendation on the Berger website, which is to back off the load a bit and seat the bullet to touch the lands.
