Took a good look at a cool rifle today.
Its a custom, built on an austrian mauser 98.(styer)
It has a rather heavy 20 inch barrel , not quite a varminter or a targer barrel, I guess I,d call it a heavy sporter. I can't remember the barrel maker. its one the smith said sold out a few years ago, but he is confident of the quality.
The stock is prety plain, no checkering but quite servicable.
Not ugly just not fancy at all.
I bet this thing would be one acurate rifle, chamberd for the 6mm.
A 20 inch tube is a little short but it ballences real nice , and I bet I could get plenty of speed and acuracy hand loading the 6mm For such a rifle.
Using bullets like a 85 grain t-shock for pronghorns , and balistic tips for coyotes, and having the abilty to step up to 100 grainers for deer.
Seems like it would be a fun one to have.
With 2 tax returns comming this year , I can have some real fun ?
I have also been looking at winchester 88s in .308, and a kimber 84 , in .308. I should get return number one next week. If I buy the kimber I wont have enough left to buy a scope for it.
But I would manage to get one anyway, I can be creative when I want to be.
If I get the 6mm , I would be very close to a Nikkon monarch 2.5X10 witch would be perfect.
The 88s I looked at were cheapest of all , and I would be real happy with a VX2 2X7,.
Choices choices choies.

Isn't it amazing how thinking of a new rifle brings out the OCD in the best of us?

I'm a 6mm fan. Mine is a LH 788. Good luck with it as it sounds like a nice find.
