What kind of powders are work well for the 22-250 shooters around here. I have a bunch of 55gr. bullets. My standard selection of powders on the bench is IMR4895, IMR4064 and IMR4350 but I can try something else. The rifle is a Tikka T3 Lite 22"bbl.

I have had very good performance with H4895 shooting 50 grain bullets.

IMR 4895 is always a good place to start.

H380 is THE standard for the 22/250.
I have had luck with RL-15 and IMR-4064 as well.
Good luck with yours.

The 4350 won't generate the speed the other two will.....and a lot of folks are "set" on IMR-4895 but 6064 is good as well

If I was buying powder for the task it would be H-380

In my Remington VSSF 22-250 that I bought in 1995, I've loaded nothing but the Sierra 55gr Spitzer over IMR 4064 with Winchester primers.

It groups consistently at .5 - .7 inches for 5 shots at 100 yards with a Leupold VARI-X III 6.5x20x40 scope without me being a great shot and me blind in one eye and can't see out the other.

Thanks folks! I will try cooking up some loads with the 4895 and 4064 I have on hand before venturing out to my local reloading supplier. H380 is probably next on the list to buy then.

I had used Varget, RL-15, and H-380 with excellent success in my various 22-250's with the 55 gr. bullets. I tried the Ramshot Big Game, got .5" groups, easier metering and less temperature problems than with H-380. I shoot the Sierra #1365 55 gr. SBT using Winchester brass and CCI-BR-2 primers with 39.0 grs. of Big Game. The Big Game is also less expensive. As the guys have stated above, there are many good powders for the 22-250.

Good Hunting,

Bob

I've had best results with Winchester 760 in the 22-250.

faster powders are also a good alternative in the 22.250...

with 40 grainers, 34.5 grains of RL 7 with give the bullet an MV of about 4400 fps...that is a grain over book max, but book max is also lower than the SAAMI specs on the case..

IMR 3031, And 4320 were left out also...both highly accurate with very good MV...

30 grains of IMR 4198 also is a good load with 55 grainers and down...

Benchmark and RL 10 are also great powders with the 22.250...

I go with the philosophy that the less powder used, the longer your throat life is going to be.. back off redlining the MV on the 22/250 and barrel life can go up drastically...

between the 223 and 22.250, there sure is a lot of fun potential playing with them.. at the reloading bench, the range and out in the field...
