about 2 months ago I bought a CVA Scout compact in 243 WIN and found it to be a very well baleced gun and a decent shooter 1.5"-2.0" all day at 150 yards.. but it had a spring problem and it would not always fire... so after having it a week and half it was back in the shop.. got it back and worked fine with factory ammo they shot 5 differnt types of ammo and said the remington was the best primer hits ... so I loaed up 100 rounds of 62gr Varmit gernads by Barns with 47.5 grs of Reloader 19 in a reming ton case and remington 9.5 primers...

Well they did not work 7 times i pulled the triger on one round and did not go off.. so took it home took the barrel off checked head space that was ok... the primer was .0015 deeper than factory ammo so .. I brought it back to the shop and explaned the situation ... and asked if they would do a trade for another 243 WIN.. I inculed some other stuff with it .. and had a gun in mind showed him what i was wanting and he thought about it and said sure...

So what I got was a base modle Weatherby Vangaurd the target on it showed 3 shots at about .875 but not designated as a sub MOA.. I got it all set up free floated the barrel (done this on 3 others and works good) and took it to the range ... at 100 yards with the 62 gr varmit gernads .455" for 4 shots ... at 200 yards 1.120" 4 shots... and then shot some Winchester Supream 55gr Balistic silver tips at 200 yards 4 shots 1.00"

Now would that be considerd 1/2 MOA gun ....

I called Weatherby and ask if they would sell me a SUB MOA bottum plate for my gun and they said NO ... Frowner Frowner

Well done. Who cares about the bottom plate!?

Maybe you can have a custom one made up that reads 1/2 MOA tu2

I'm interested; a wood stocked model? I'm guessing so beacuse of the free floating exercise.

Big Bird.. I took the triger apart and polished every surface I could then modified the triger so I could adjust more take up and then worked on the triger spring .. Then put in the hands of a friend who has timmney trigers on all his guns and asked him what he thought of it .. he ask me what brand trigger I put in it and said he had to guess .. he said it feels like his timmney but some thing was just a little diffrant... then told him it was the factory triger .. all the safetys work just fine and it can take a 100+ lbs hit to the but stock and not go off.. I have put in the hands of 13 people now and all of them cant belive it is a factory triger.. it went from braking at 3.75lbs to 2.0lbs and no creap and breakes like glass very very smooth...

I did do some 100 yard shooting and came up with some 100gr Nosler Boat Tail soft points with 44grs of RL 19 were .688 for 4 shots and the 62gr Varmit Gernads were .490 for 4 shots and 3 shots were touching one was off just a hair up and to the right....

If you have free floated the barrel, don't know what you will accomplish by filling in the voids with bedding except make the weight higher. If the forearm is flexing enought to affect the barrel, it really isn't floated. If not, it should not be having any effect.

From a structural standpoint, filling in the voids with bedding will likely not have much stiffening effect anyway unles you add some sort of high modulus fiber, and this would need to go on the outside, not the inside. Putting fiber down the voids under the bedding would be near the centerline of the forearm and have no effect.

If the gun is consistently shooting sub MOA, I would quit and not take a chance on screwing something up. Spend your time and dollars on load development.
