Is anyone here using the Barnes 62gr .243 Varmint Grenade? How do
you like them? Accuracy? What OAL do ya end up with?

Upon opening the box I was surprised at the length (darned near an
inch)!! There is so much bearing surface that the recommendation on
the box states the need for 1:10 or tighter twist. Have .204's and
.224's which are very short........NOT THESE!!

I haven't tried that bullet but if you're into the .243 and varminting.....try the 55 grain BTs from Nosler.....spectacular.

Western Nebraska, eh? How far from Stratton where
I was raised?

I have a box of Nos 55gr BT's, so far with
limited results. Need to seat further out and
speed them up. It just seems nutz to have
only 1/8" bullet bearing surface in the
neck, but others are getting 1/4" groups
with such loads, at 3900-4000fps.

Now, how about those varmint grenades??

I had Christmas dinner in Stratton....about 20-25 miles directly south of me. I was a guest of the pastor of the Stratton Union Church.

I get better accuracy out of the Noslers at full power than I do with the VGs. But I like the VGs better with 12-14 grains Blue Dot. Both work very well at reduced levels but I like what the VGS do a little more.

I have tried the 62 gr. Varmint Grenade bullets in my .243/6mm rifles. None of the rifles seemed to like the bullets. I have 15 left. If you want to try them out, I will send them to you. Just need an address. I will bubble wrap and send USPS.
Let me know.
