Hello everybody! While I have never really been interested in small bored rifles I was at the range the other day and a guy was shooting something that he said was called a .14 Flea. He showed me the rounds and it's the littlest damn thing I've ever seen. ( bullet wise) Can you guys please tell me more as I might want to look into this further.

JR,

If I'm not mistaken, the cartridge in the middle of this photo is the .14 Flea. On the left if a .14/22 Long Rifle, and a .14 Hornet on the right. 22LR and .223 for size comparison. I have these in my cartridge collection, but like you, would like to know more about them. Several years ago, Bill Eichelberger was selling Contender barrels for the .14 Long Rifle as well as a .14 on a 22 Mag case. Your best bet for information would probably be to get in touch with Todd Kindler. He posts here occasionally, and is quite knowledgeable about the extreme small bores. I think he sells some .14-caliber components through The Woodchuck Den. Russ Lucas sells .14-caliber bullets and accessories as well. Both have web pages. Todd is also involved with Small Caliber News which is probably the only print source for this kind of stuff. I'm not sure whose barrels they use, but Virgin Valley chambers Contender and Encore barrels for a couple of different 14's.

Here's a few links to get you started:

The Woodchuck Den
Russ Lucas' Sub Caliber Bullets & Accessories
Saubier Small Caliber - Lots of good stuff here. He has a new message board up within the last couple of months. Also a picture there of a couple of .10-caliber wildcats.

Since I wildcat the same parent case (25 ACP) to 22 caliber. I also have a bit of interest in these sizes of rounds. I call mine the 22 Epperson Cricket, but I'm sure there is not a lot of difference between it and say the 22 Flea (if there is such an animal). I haven't been able to find anyone that knows much about loads for these little beasts so I've been on my own. But my project is a long way from what they've done. I had to make all my own tools to do it with, including reamers, dies, and the centerfire bolt to convert the 22LR rifles to fire this little bugger. It's a fun little round though. I've managed to chrono the 35gr V-max at 1850fps, using a 2.5gr load of 231.

Is the .14 Flea on the .25 ACP case? If so, that's not it in the photo. The one in the photo is based on the .32 ACP. I'll have to dig through my records and find the proper name.

Jeff Lawrence is the guy who makes the small caliber barrels - .14 cal and smaller is his specialty. I believe that he makes .17 caliber as well but can't be sure. As far as the .14's go, I have Bill Eichelberger's .14 caliber load manual and it lists the .14 flea as well as many others. If you are remotely interested in getting a .14, this load manual would be a good place to start. I have listed on my site all of the .14's that he provides information on in his load manual. The .10 caliber cases that I have are definitely a conversation piece, but I am not sure that I would want to get something quite that small.
