Hey guys just thought that I'd report on a new rifle action that I saw at the Shot Show. While crusing the Shot Show I found this company, American Gun Company. What caught my eye was their 1885 Highwall but they also had a couple of their new Mini Action rifles there. After looking at the 1885 with stars in my eyes the guys showed me another rifle that they were in the process of getting into production. They called it the KS23 or Mini action. When I first looked at it it looked like just another remington clone, but after they explained the rifle to me I was intrigued. It is a 3 lugged bolt with about a 60 degree bolt lift. They told me that the bolt head is removable for either repair or replacement. The thing that made it different is that they have a collar that attaches to the barrel that sets the headspace for the cartridge. They said that you can have multiple cartridges for the same gun, like 223 Rem to 17 Rem and so on. They told me that the barrel can be replaced in under 10 minutes from one cartridge to another and showed me targets where they tested the cartridge to cartridge accuracy, they said that it took only 3 shots to zero the rifle back in after changing from 204 Ruger to 17 Remington. In other words you could have the same action, barrel and scope for multiple cartridges. The ones that I saw didn't have a magazine and it was explained to me that the reason was that their supplier didn't come through with the bottom metal on time for the show. From what they told me they will utilize a magazine similar to the Ruger Mini 14 magazine with a 5 round magazine being standard. They said that they have plans on offering a system where you could use the larger capacity magazines in the future as well as offering the action in a left hand bolt, right hand ejection model as well as a single shot version. They said that they are only doing it in stainless steel but had one that looked like it was blued. The guy in the booth told me it was coated with some type of tool coating that made it scratch and weather proof. They thought that the cost of the coating for the rifle was around $250. I think that the cost for a complete rifle was around $800. Here is their website so you guys can decide for yourself and let me know if its worth the money. www.americangunllc.com just my two cents today Roger | ||
