anybody have any experience with the 6mm-22/250??

I currently have a stainless 700 in 243, and am contemplating a re-barrel to 6mm-250, as it seems like it does almost the same thing, but with less powder

If I wanted to burn less powder I would look to the 6mmBR.

If you built a 6mm-250 AI it would look a lot like a .243.....you could just call the 6mm-250 your .243 unimproved!

If you saved three grains per round and powder costs $20 a pound and a rebarrel cost you $200 then you would have to shoot 23,000 rounds to recoup your rebarrel cost......think about it! That .243 looks just fine to me.

I'm a gun nut, what can I say dancing

the 6BR looks good but I hear it takes some work to make it feed from the magazine of a short action 700. I figured the 22-250 is usually no problems in the feeding dept., necking it up to 6 aint gonna change things much Confused

I know someone who did it, and I was looking at his results with interest....

After about 1,000 rounds thru it, he had it rebored to 243...

I had one for a very short time in a custom XP with a 14" barrel. It didn't offer that much more velocity than my 6mm-.223 and had a slower twist rate than I would have liked, so I moved it on.

Yes, the caliber is more efficient than a .243 WCF, but the difference is not great. There are a number of readily-available cartridges that will do the same thing as the 6mm-.250 with less hassle.

Yea and I drove my gun smith nuts getting the cartridge to feed in an AR10.
A whole lot of work. But I think that is fun.
As others have pointed out the 243 will do already with out the fuss. I just like to fuss.
It may be an ego thing but I like to shoot oddball rifles in esoteric chamberings.

My wife shot one for about 4 years. Built on a Rem 700 (that was originally a 243). Mostly used it to shoot the 70 gr Sierra at about 3450 fps. Don't compare it to the 243...it can't match that, but it comes close. It's really a supercharged 22/250, and it fills that niche wonderfully. Way more power and legs than the 22 cal version.

Feeding was a dream. Never any issues.

I'm having a 6*47 Lapua made up now. Similar size, though with better brass. Also feeds perfectly.

I shoot a 6br and 6Rem so I was wanting something to fill the gap between those two calibers and a new 6-250 was build got late last year so haven't had alot of shooting time with it yet but it should be right in the middle as to velocity (3500/3600fps with 66/70gr bullets). I'm not much into the VLD bullets for varmit shooting and if I was going to shoot them in 6mm I'd look at the 6xc or 6 Dasher. Well good luck

OR...you could always neck the 22-250 up to 25cal. I bet the 257/22-250 would be a nice little round Wink

todbartell,

If you want a sweet 6mm, no fuss, less powder and longer barrel life than 243, look at 2 cartridges:

6BR, will do 3400 70gr, 2800+ with 105/107, and if you desire a 55gr will do around 3700

Next, the 6.5x47 Lapua necked down, simple pass through die, I DO NOT believe you have to worry about turning necks.

that would be the 6/6.5x47 Lapua Match

Either of these should do for MUCH 6mm work both paper and field.

6.5BR: curiousity question: I assume from looking at the case that the 6X47 Lapua is NOT the same cartridge as the old 6X47 (222Mag necked up to 6mm). Is that correct? thanks

Absolutely correct. The Lapua version is 308 head size, and holds about 35-40 gr powder vs 27-30 or so that a 222Mag does.

The Remington 6MM International was a version of the .250 Savage necked down to 6MM with a sharper shoulder. It was chambered in the 40X Remington if that tells you anything.

The 6.5X250 makes a neat looking round too.
