groundhog devastation, Quote: Just how many near max. loaded .22-250or .220 Swift are you going to find still shooting at 10,000 rounds? Also for those that have heard the rumors there is no feeding problems with these new "short-fat" cartridges. This rumor got started back when Winchester first released the .300 WSM. Winchester fixed that problem. If there were still a feeding problem then Winchester wouldn't have sold the thousands that they have sold. Sure an occasional one shows a problem but that happens to every firearm manufacture. Lawdog

Well it depends, 10000 shots is a lot out of any sporter. I friend of mine has an old 700 Remington in 7mm Mag, he bought it in '65 I think. Its his only rifle and it still shoots well enough for his hunting, he told me the other day that he thinks the barrel is getting shot out. he maybe right, he's put dam near 7000 shots thru it. It started out a 2 inch gun in and now its grouping around 3.5 inchs or so, He still hits and kills his game. I told him that it should be good for a while longer, tell Remington next year that there barrels don't last very long. He is going to have it rebarreled after the seasons are over. A barrel will last a lot longer than most would even think. I have seen more barrels worn out thru poor cleaning than anything else. My friend has shot nothing but a 175 gr Nosler Partition handload out of of his rifle and has collected a lot of game over the years. It still has the original 4x leupold scope and Redfield base and rings!
