Well ! I got one on any way, that one is my custom lo numberd springfireld. Its a very accurate rifle. I plan to have it checkerd and probably have the striker replaced just cause I like the mushroom. I like the way my smith bent the bolt, and the wood is rather unique dont you think ! I, try to add little robbie to this post. freedom1st

Thomas: Very nice looking rifle. What kind of groups do you get with it? You might want to loook at www.ahlmans.com for a checkering job. She seems to have some very reasonable prices and from what others on these forums have said, she does a good job and has a fairly fast turnaround time. Tom Purdom

Tom Thanks for the compliment. The gray background on the picture makes it look blonder than it is, its really more brown. Its clario walnut but in the picture it looks almost like maple. I looked at the website you gave me, but I will probably let the guy I know do this one, I have held his work in my hands and I rather like him, and to me that makes a difference. I have 19 rifles so I can set thisone aside for a year and still have lots of choices. I have had lots of good groups with this one, with 40.5 graind if IMR-4350 I put3 of the 110 grain nosler acubonds into .48 so worked up to 42 and got an avarage of .90 for 3 3shot groups 43 grain is at abot an inch. but the 42 grain load only gave me 2642 so I goot work up slow with a lo numberd springfield, this action is from 1905. most loads are at an inch or better. The only bullet it won't shoot dtrait is the Sierra 90 grainHP, it just doesnot seem to like it. I put some 117 grain sierras into a Quarter inch but velocity was way slow. Gonna set that one aside and start working up faster loads when I get it back. [/IMG] freedom1st

Thomas Once again nice looking rifle! I have a soft spot for .257 Roberts and for Springfields so that gun always gets my attention. Instead of not shooting it while the stock is away at the checkering "smith" why don't you get a cheapo synthetic for it and let him have the wood part. That way you won't even miss the rifle and you'll appreciate the wood when it comes back too.

Looks nice. Only things that I would change- when you have it checkered, have them put on a ebony forend tip, and replace the recoil pad with a solid one (Decellerator or of that ilk, and ditch the white line spacer). Then she'll be a beaut. SBB

I don't think i,ll do a for tip, but a different pad is not a bad Idea. The spacer does not bother me. This rifle has a little history with my smith. He shot it for years witha barrel chamberd for 6.5X57. When his frend, (the guy thats gonna do the checkering) wanted a 260 built, Kurt unscrewd the barrel, installed a sporterweight 24 inch douglas , blued it and refinished the stock. Boit a decelerator might be the way to go. certainly , if I change it out no need to get a temporary stock for it, I have another Roberts and a ton of other lovly toys to play with while its away....tj3006 freedom1st
