---
I know you were being sarcastic, but the 6mm-.223, in the proper hands, is a very effective tool for smaller deer and exotics. I had had a number of them -- my very first being a custom XP-100 with a 14" Shilen barrel -- and have put a good bit of game on the ground with them.
With the discontinued Sierra 80 grain SSP, it killed far out of proportion to its dimunitive size.

No one will ever take you seriously again.

Bobby TomekHot Core-
You are in the wrong thread, buddy -- and trying to deflect attention from your ridiculous claim of having killed "many thousands" of deer.
But just to appease you (and to call you BS): Let's see...you are talking about the method that, in YOUR OWN WORDS: "
CHE measurements become more reliable for firings 2-5. Then
CHE measurements become somewhat unreliable after 5-7 firings..."----
Again, CHE is far from the final word in pressures. Knowledgeable and experienced reloaders agree.
Then again, you don't qualify in either regard...
Now, Hot Core, for more reloading talk, GO TO THE APPROPRIATE FORUM...

TC1Bobby, he's just just pissed off because he let his emotions get the best of him and he told a big lie to try to shore up his inexperience. Everybody here knows the man lied about how many deer he's killed and now his pride has been crushed. He'll never be taken seriously again.
It's sad but funny at the same time.

Bobby Tomek...the envelope please...
The 2009 Internet Award for LIE of the YEAR goes to:
Hot Core of Accuratereloading.com, a legend in his OWN mind who claims to have killed "many thousands" of deer.
Be proud of your achievment, Hot Core, and we'll all see you at next year's ceremony as you try and defend your title...

Bobby TomekHey Jeff-
Based on Hot Core's math, I now have a formula to make our pig-killing numbers put us close to the same league of Hot Core. See the previous page in this thread.
Maybe one of us will compete for next year's AWARD...

yesyou guys are fighting for NOTHING.
adding a zero to a sum is adding nothing to it. let me explain my old hunter's boasting system.
if you shoot a deer at 20 yards and you feel it is a short range you can just add a zero to the number and it becomes 200 yards

. zero means nothing and in reality you can swear that you have added nothing to the range

adding one or two zero to the numbers is absolutely just

inold hunter's boasting stories. i recall the late Elmaer keith shooting a mulldeer att 600 yards+ with his 44 special sixgun

.

Right on. This is beyond strange. It's a bunch of incorrigible Adam Henrys in a feeding frenzy, slobbering all over each other, patting each other on the back, arguing for the sake of it, and it has little to do with the initial question. This thoroughly explains why such a topic is taboo face to face, unless of course you agree with the more rabid facton. Disagreeing would be a good way to make an enemy or worse. This is worse than arguing politics. Perhaps adding the use of 223 for deer to the list of the world's strangest cults or religions is appropriate.
This is a very strange phenomenon populated by very strange and unreasonable men. Maybe it's some kind of new male bonding thing.
I certainly want no part in it anymore. I think that all that was maybe here to learn has long ago flushed away with the first enema. I've reached the conclusion that the 223 aficionados have nothing to offer that I care to know. My world works just fine by ignoring them.
The thing is they are among us and not so easily identified. It's like the old saying about wishing one's enemies could walk with a limp, so you could see them coming.
Instead, perhaps now we know when we see a deer walking with a limp, it's the mark of the 223 devil.

TC1, I know you would like for me to go away, but you most of all gives me reason to stay. You are flaming assholeitus on parade.
This is one of those issues covered in the prayer that goes something like: Lord give me the courage to change those things which need changing and which I can change, and give me the wisdom to not worry about those things I can not change.
Obviously, my wisdom is questionable. Perhaps you have mistaken that for stupidity.

It seems to me that the word humble is a good word. Of course I choose to relate to adjectives 1 & 4, and synonyms 1 & 4. This word is a good representation of this thread, because one can skew the meanings so easily depending on his predispoisition and predjudices. It's nothing new.

smithrjdI have not read all 500+ posts, but for myself no I would not use a 223 for deer. I have no doubts that it can and does do the job. 20 years in the military I know what a good shooter can do with one. For me a 243 is the minimum. Heck last year I used a 9.3X62 for deer.. It is really about shot placement. I once asked an older mentor what was his favortie caliber for deer, got an answer that I did not expect. He shot more deer with a 22lr than anything else. Of course he was feeding a family year round.. Comes down to skill in hunting and shot placement.
