Was talking with my BR shootin' buddy the other day, he was telling me about how this buddy of his was reloading for his Ruger action 223AI and when he went to shoot it, it blew up on him. Seems he had some pistol powder in front of him(My buddy didn't remember what kind)and he apparantly used it instead of whatever one uses in a 223AI. The barrel and stock(albiet a couple cracks) is still good, I guess. Ruger action is junk, don't know about the scope. Some people just need to stay out of the reloading scene. Well, this is the same guy that keeps on shootin 223Rem through his now broke dick 223ai and won't get 223AI dies and do it the right way. BTW, and he thought he was getting great accuracy with 1.5" groups @100yds. Though maybe when he did this deed he had some AI dies, don't know, have to ask BR shootin buddy if he got dies, or not. What a knucklehead! Jay

there should be an exam required before you can buy reloading supplies or equipment. Some of the more non-science oriented folks need to stick to factory ammo.

There is an exam, each time you load a round. Final test is when you pull the trigger. Some pass, some fail.

Hmmmm....does it count if you use 5grs of bullseye under toiler paper and oatmeal to fireform .223 AI brass?

I don't mean to make lite of this incident, but I have my Dillon 550 currently set up for 9mm using Univ Clays next to my RCBS Big Max currently set up for 6.5-06 AI loading 4831 with a regular RCBS powder measure. I went to load the 6.5 a few weeks ago and I grabbed the black jug and poured powder into the measure threw a charge into the scale and found the weight way too heavy. My first thought was damn...somebody has been screwing with the powder measure (my son loads too). I check the setting on the micro knob and was set in accordance with the load I wanted to load in the 6.5. I threw another load into the scale and it weighed the same..way heavy. THEN...I noticed it was not IMR 4831, but Universal Clays I put in the powder measure!!! I have been loading successfully for about 42 years for about 40 calibers and 5 gauges and this is the first time this or anything close to this has happened to me. I was really careless to let this happen!!!!.....learn from my mistake folks!!!

I caught this because I ALWAYS weigh before I start loading and then every 10 rounds. PROPER proceedure foiled carelessness again!!

The year of the .30-06!!
100 years of mostly flawless performance on demand.....Celebrate...buy a new one!!

I am SO glad that the person that taught me to reload HAMMERED into my thick skull his primary rule - one powder on the bench at a time, and empty powder measure and stow away powder at the end of every session. I know that a mistake can still happen, but I've been lucky so far. I have six presses on my bench.

Yep. That takes care of these mix-ups. I have a dry-erase board that I write the current powder in use on. That way if leave the bench for a couple of weeks there is no dought what powder was or is in use.

Don't suggest this!! Charlie, Teddy & Hillary can think up enough bullshit without our help......

Seriously!! NEVER reload anything with any but one container of the correct powder out of your powder closet!!
