BOOMYesterday I saw and shot a Rem. 7615 for the first time. It had a conventional stock. I was really smitten by the design balance and feel of this rifle. If a short slide action like this were ever offered in say a 250-3000 ( deep throat) or similar cartridge it would represent to me the perfect walk about deer rifle. The sights were law enforcement or military but it was drilled and tapped for scope mounts. What a charmer. I was also surprised at the off hand capability and accuracy of the Socom. thumbroger

Remington 760 Pump Action Rifle, been around for years and Remington has always seem to make such a rifle and then add the clip of an AR15 you have the 7615 Rifle firing the .223 caliber cartridge. Intended for LE, security, etc., but quite available to ordinary folks as well. Rifle utilizes the std. AR15/16 clip and the one that I had opportunity to fire some months ago was a very nice combination of firepower(w/ 30 round clip) and accuracy not bad at all(remember the barrel is basically floated on this rifle) and the caliber since military round will be around long after all of us have passed away to the big range in the sky. The old '06 is 100 years old and still going stronger than ever. I might get me one of the little carbines. Check out Rem. LE web site.

beerAt first glance you know you are looking at a Mod. 760 clone. That for me was where the heretity ended. The weight, handeling, balance, slide action stroke length, and off hand ability were different than any 760 I ever owned or fired.

A friend of mine years back had a 760, 30-06 with an 18" barrel that came close but not quite. popcornroger

The 7615POLICE as mine is marked is a neat package indeed. I replaced the open rear on mine (nearsighted and old, couldn't see) with a Williams reciever sight and am very happy with that. Might like a scope but will wait a while for that. 1.5x5 Leupold might be the ticket though. Only drawback is it comes with a 10 round clip and you can't find a 5 round (so it's legal for hunting) around here. Makes a heck of a truck or trunk gun. Mine has a 16.5" barrel and is parkerized with sling swivels. Little pricy though at $800+. They also make a collapsable M16 type stock for it that would be handy. Mine had a really good Remington marked recoil pad that felt good also.

Zim, you can add a block of wood in through the bottom of the mag to block it off to five rounds. Someone used to make a metal "U" shaped block for turning a 20 rounder into a 5 round mag.

Zimbabwe,

Just for you, Bushmaster makes a 5 rounder:

Smiler

I'd like to play with one of the 7600 police rifles in .308, we issue the 870 with the ghost ring sights and they are amazingly accurate, at least for shorty shotguns with issue slugs.

Sorry for the confusion,I have one on order from Brownells just were none locally available. They are neat guns to handle and shoot. Seems to be pretty accurate but without a scope and my shooting that's just a guess. Can't figure how to get bottom off the mag to put in a block or I would have. Does not seem to be removable. Afraid I'll break some of the plastic.

Find you a mil/surp M16 mag, removeable bottom plate, field strip, install wooden block, piece of metal strapping bent, etc., to prevent follower from depressing more than 5 rounds deep in the magazine body. I doubt that the law enforcement person inspecting would dismantle the magazine and see that it was convertible back to 20 rounds. Might, but I doubt it. If modifying as mentioned is illegal simply do not do it. As Rick R mentioned, 5 rounders are avaiable. What the hell is Arizona doing with a magazine capacity restriction to start with?? Vote the buggers out of office.

To tell the truth I have no big disagreement with the 5 round rule. It must be in more than just Arizona as all the manufacturers make a 5 round magazine and don't think they would do it JUST for Arizona. We have lived for many many years with the 3 round shotgun rule with no real disadvantage so have no problem with this rule. I think that that method of magazine modification would be more than acceptable it's just the mag that came with the rifle didn't lend itself to it. Most dealers around here carry the 5 rond mags they were just out at this time before hunting season.

I believe that there are a few States that have magazine capacity rules, guess it makes someone some where feel better and to avoid hijack there are also States where you can't hunt with an autoloader so the 7615 is a neat option.

With the Assault Weapon Ban the magazine manufacturers had to jump thru hoops to develop mags with permanently blocked capacity, those are tough to do anything with. I'd just use the wood block in a MilSpec 20 rounder and stick a pop rivet thru the floorplate to make the conversion permanent.

It's nice to be able to use any old 20 rounder (or Beta C-Mag Wink ) when I take one of my AR's hunting. Big Grin
