Thompson Contender youth 16" barrel?

I've come across a TC in .223 with a 16" barrel for a decnt price. I'm really just looking for a truck gun, something small sturdy.
Can anyone give me some info on these rifles? They seem to be popular enough, I wonder what the triggers are like and if they can be swapped out for aftermarket ones since I am a bit critical of just about all factory triggers.
Thanks

T/C Contender (not G2 Contenders) triggers tend to be quite nice. If they're not what you like, you can have a trigger job done to make them better. I know of no one who makes after market triggers for them.

It's easy to test the Contender trigger (I haven't tried a G2 and I understand they're different). Open and close the action. Leave the hammer DOWN and squeeze the trigger. The trigger will release with an audible click; that's what the trigger is like when you shot it. To cock it again, you have to open and close the action again. DON'T dry fire (i.e., let the hammer drop down) on either the Encore or Contender as that can damage them.

T/C Encore triggers tend to be a bit heavy but that can be remedied with a trigger job. Once again, I know of no after market triggers for them.

Thanks Grumulkin,
As it happened this guy's car broke down on his way here so I?ll have to wait till next week to see it.
From what I've heard I don't think I'll have any major problems. I had a look at the Bellm website and saw that there he offers a free download for te DIY trigger job which is a bonus.
This needs to be a truck gun (I have one of the biggest 4x4's availiable here and it's the Landrover Defender 130, which has a tiny cabin) for cleaning up foxes and other varmints as they turn up in unexpected moments, so realistcally, I don't think much will be asked of it. What I need is a short, reasonably accurate rifle.

I have the same gun, same caliber which I bought to teach my kids on after they graduate from the .22. Very handy little gun, I was pretty impressed with it. I was planning on sending mine to Bellm because the trigger is awful on it. My daughter is turning into a real shooter and I don't want to ingrain any bad habits with the trigger that is on it now. Great truck gun.
