I need some opinions on whether to build a 25-284 of 25-270wsm. This rifle will be shot off the ultimate tripod by Hart and will not be carried around so I want 28 to 30 inch heavy barrel. I will be using this rifle for long range groundhog hunting upto 800 yards. Bullets will be 85 upto 120 grains. I don't think I will use the VLD bullets.
I know the 25-284 is equivalent to the 25-06 and maybe more accurate because of the 284 wiinchester case and the fact I can buy 6.5-284 Lapua brass and neck it down. Is the 25-270wsm too overbore in that I will not be able to burn the powder efficiently? Is it as accurate? Anybody have any experience with this round? How do you form the case? Are the 270 wsm necks too thick? I believe it is also called the 25 Pronghorn.
Thanks for the input.
