First message for me! Anyone have any pet loads for the sierra 168 and what oal or overall cartridge length fit your xp100. Probably just off the lands. I will just be shooting paper. I am thinking H4895

You should have fun shooting that 7BR in the XP-100. I own two of them and shoot them in NRA and IHMSA silhouette competition. H 4895 powder will work find as does H 335. A lot of guys used to use 748 but most have gotten away from it around here. Actually, the most used accuracy powder for the 7BR here in CA is Vihtavuori N 135 by far. As I said, I have two XP-100 pistols chambered in 7BR. One is currently being rebarreled because it was getting tired after close to 7000 rounds. Neither one ever gave me the very best accuracy with the 168 grain Sierra Matchking. The 168 Sierra is a great bullet that is favored by many but lots of stock Remington barrels will not shoot them as well as they do the lighter Matchkings. I have had great success shooting the 150 and 130 grain Matchkings in my two factory barrels. The 7BR can be remarkably accurate in an XP-100. In regard to OAL length, you are on the right track staying just off the lands. I was at a silhouette match yesterday and a buddy was shooting his 7BR while I spotted him. His ammo looked a little weird, he shoots 168's but his throat in his gun is so worn out they are barely in the case. Those things are seated WAY out there. Have fun and be sure to try the lighter weight Matchkings if the 168's don't do want you want them to. R F R Flowers

Thanks for the advice RF. Maybe that's why info on the 168 Sierra is so sparse with the rem xp100 in 7mm br. I have 150 match sierra and I can try those. I wonder if the twist rate in that particular factory barrel has anything to do with the 168g not being an accurate choice. What do you think? Richard

Once again , Richard you are on the right track here. I have a number of friends who shoot the 168 Sierra Matchking in the 7BR for silhouette competetion. They think they are the best thing ever created. However, they all have custom Shilen or Hart barrels with 1 in 9 inch twists. I believe the stock Remington barrels are 1 in 9 1/2 inch twist, or possibly 1 in 9 1/4 inch. That does not sound like much difference, but we are shooting down around 1800 to 2000 fps and at those speeds it just might be a factor. As mentioned, I have an XP-100 being rebarreled right now. It is getting a match grade SS barrel from Shilen with a 1 in 9 twist. I am anxious to see if the 168 grain bullets will shoot well in it. Actually, I have seen a number of stock Remington XP's chambered for 7BR that shoot just unbelieveable groups with the 130 Sierra Matchking. One of my guns shoots well under a half an inch at 100 yards. I have shot some groups of 0.35 inches for 5 shots at 100 yards. Personally, I don't like the 168 grain bullets for competition anyway due to the increase in recoil. Again, most of my buddies have gone to muzzle brakes to deal with the problem. (I hate to admit it, but my new barrel will also wear a brake.) In regard to lad data, check out the latest version of the Sierra manual. It has a section dedicated to single shot pistols. There is a wealth of 7BR data there for a large range of bullets. R F R Flowers
