I started with Gunbroker, looking at all the Sporter rifles in .223. This may turn out to be a gift to Dad. Here's the criteria: No protruding mag, he doesn't like my CZ. Monte stock maybe laminate, no plastic. Standard length bbl. (no carbines) Straight bolt handle (no Rugers) For looks he kinda likes Weatherby (but I told him they're Howas) I'm thinking rem M700. Any thoughts. Rich

Something like this (may take you a while to find one): http://www.gunsamerica.com/992972095/Guns-For-Sale/Gun-...ifles/SAKO_VIXEN.htm - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... A second vote for the Sako AI or L461. You won't be disappointed. Lou **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

Vixen.. Hmmm. There's a beautiful custom stocked (Circassian walnut) .223 w/a PM 3 position safety at my smith right now... cost is a consideration. Rich

That sounds very nice - if not necessarily inexpensive.... If you decide to look closer, as Dr. Lou said, the best actions are the L461 and the A1 (stamped on the receiver wall). The L49x series is also nice, but has a separate recoil lug. Nice guns, one and all. - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... I thought "Remington BDL" based on your criteria. They can be found cheap and generally shoot very well. ________ "...And on the 8th day, God created beer so those crazy Canadians wouldn't take over the world..."

Yes, yes, the L-461 Sako is the answer to his prayers..It even sorta looks like a Weatherby, thats why I custom stocked mine because I like old English rifles and mine looks like a african DG rifle on a small scale..Its a 6x45. I love it. I shot 15 Rock Chucks today from my kitchen window without a miss from 100 to 300 yards..Course the kitchen table was my bench rest. The other day at a gun store in Billings I was fondling a Vixen. The fit of the stock felt so good I didn't want to put it down. I damn near walked out with it if it weren't for the fact I didn't have the $1k to pay for it. I will have one soon though. If the $1k is the problem for you as well I would suggest a Rem 700 cdl or bdl. You could also look at there 799 mini mauser. I hear mixed reviews on these though. I think the Remington is more of a problem than the 1K. **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member
