I recently purchased a remington 700 classic in 25-06,the guy even gave me a box of reloaded ammo, using 117gr SSTs but dont know the rest of the components.

does anyone know the twist rate of this rifle? for some reason i believe it is 1-12, which is slow for a 25-06 IMO.

ive alreaddy managed to shoot a couple of goats with it, along with a few birds! one shot at a little over 200yards and hit a bird the size of a crow..spose the load aint too bad.

blueing and everything is pretty much untouched, and ive given it a bit of a clean since it was fairly dirty and cant see any pitting in the muzzel end which is a good sign

I am pretty sure that if you check it you will find that the Remington barrel is a 1 in 10 twist. That is the rate that Remington has used for the 25-06 ever since they brought it out.

That is a nice rifle. I bought one the year they were offered and shot the heck out of it. Wound up rebarreling it with a Lilja barrel, now it REALLY shoots !

Should be a 1:10 twist. Mine really likes the Hornady 100 grainers with Reloader 22.

hmm maybe the cleaning rod aint spinning freely enough to tell me the correct twist.
well 1-10 makes me happy! ill be able to shoot heavier bullets now.

might try the 100gr ballistic tips first. not sure what powder to use might use some 4831 or maybe some ADI 2213sc orrrrr some N-165, according to the VV manual N165 should produce top velocities.

cant wait to load up some rounds and shoot it on the range!

anyone got a load?

Paul: No handloads yet, but my Model 700 loves 115gr Noslers in the Federal loading. Under 1/2" at 100yds! I will be checking the velocity and try to replicate it when I get a chance.
