I stumbled across a Ruger MkII in .25-06 with a Leupold 3x9 VXII for $400.00. Seems like a no brainer to me, but I did have a question about the rifle.
It seems to have a heavy barrel, not quite a bull bbl, but heavier than my 7mmag for example. Would this be their Varmit Model? Any pros or cons for this combo?

Weight would be the only concern.
I have a Mk II in 257 Roberts that is a good shooter. I did put a new trigger in it though.
At $400, I'd buy it.

if its a MK2 then its a varmint, if it was a tang safety it would be a target.

I have a M77 MkII in 25-06. It shoots very well! I would buy it without reservation. I believe that Ruger uses the same barrel profile for the 25-06 as it does for the 300 WinMag, so it's a bit heavier than you would expect, but it's not a 'heavy barrel.' The 24" heavier profile barrel makes it a joy to shoot.

I have noticed ruger uses a heaver barrel for the 25,06 than the .270 or the Roberts or the 30,06.
I really don't know why, but I bet they shoot. That price is good for sure. Might want to put a timney trigger in er though...tj3006

It's good to hear that the Sierra 90 gr HPBT works in the 25-06. It is THE bullet in my 250 Savage... Great accuracy.

I can't get that darn 90 greain sierra to shoot in any of my 3 .257 rifles. I have a 4th on the way.
And I have a few of them left. I,ll try them in the .257 AI am am having built,
I think for a smaller black tails or antilope it should be a real good choice...tj3006

Ended up leaving the Ruger on the rack. Bought a 95+% Model 700BDL .25-06 from the same estate with Leupold II 3X9 for $375.00! Might go back for the Ruger.

Model 700BDL .25-06 95+% with Leupold II 3X9 for $375.00 AND A Ruger MkII in .25-06 with a Leupold 3x9 VXII for $400.00 ???

How the heck does this gun dealer stay in business. Both of those guns thusly equiped would have been priced at least $300 higher in Kansas. Eeker

Yes in Colorado those are $850 in any gunshop or pawnshop. Hell 03' sporters in real rough condition with no scopes are priced at $450 to 475 around here, just can't get a break.

Congratulations on your great buy, I'd go back and get the Ruger too!

Ya done good!!!
The action alone is worth $375.
I'd go back and get the Ruger too.
Then I'd sit back and try to figure out which one to do the AI job on, for a real long ranger.. Big Grin
