Nothing serious. I'm just concerned that I haven't seen a Swede thread for a week or so. Smiler

I do need to finish up my M70 trigger, though. Even at its lightest, it varies between 2.5 and 5.5 pounds, with a bit of creep.

We 6.5x55 fans are still here, just taking a bit of a breather.
Best wishes.

I just got my new Boyds JRS Laminated wood stock today for my Howa 6.5x55. Since it was a "factory fit" finished stock, I was hoping for a drop in fit. Well, it dropped in fine and the action bolted to the stock fine - until I tried to retract the bolt and it hit the wood back by the rear tang. So I guess I have a little bit of stock work to do. I also noticed that the previously free floated barrel (in the plastic Butler Creek stock) was touching in several places with the new stock. One thing at a time, first, be able to work the action so I can see how it shoots, then, if need be, sand down the barrel channel to float the barrel. I am hoping that it will shoot better even with the barrel touching the wood. But then again, I was hoping for a "drop in" fit, too. Wish me luck, since a carpenter, fine woodworker, I am not....

Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.

I am loading up some 85 grain Sierra HPs, just to have some more fun shooting prairie dogs and sage rats with, at longer ranges.

Does that count?

Well I do not quite understand this, but I bump into this Mr. Cal Sibley at every occasion. How can that bee? (By the way: Happy New Year and so on…)

Most of my pure Swedes are retired, but the 6.5-284 is in a way a 55’er too?

So after installing my new Border with 200 through, I was anxious to se if my old ballistic table would be valid for the reworked loads.

613 meters Leica lasered, climbing into my competition sling, prone position, 7 kg old black beast, a little breath of God from the right and I thought that would be just fine for the right hand twist.

The fouler I knew would go low at 600. I had a flier at let off I could see. But the others should be fine.

And they were. Three in an egg, one 2 in. right and the fouler 2 in. low and left, showing that I miscalculated only one click right at my scope. My old table should go just fine along with my new barrel.

Three crows would have been wasted and two more scared indeed, not bad at all at 600+ meters.

From the other side,

Have a nice day all of you!

Hi all,

New forum member here and fellow 6.5 mm lover.

As my ID implies, NRA Highpower is my favorite gun sport, and for that I have an AR15 for service rifle category and a custom Model 70 in 260 Remington for the match rifle category.

I also enjoy fine hunting rifles and own two CZs. One is a 452 Standard in 22LR which I've had for several years now. The other is a CZ 550 Full Stock in 6.5X55.

I haven't seen my new rifle yet, since I ordered it last weekend, and I'm now travelling on business. This Saturday will be my first opportunity to fondle my new rifle.

I can't wait......... Big Grin

Hello moonshine,

Guess who? The reason we encounter each other so much is I have a keen interest in the 6.5x55, having four of them:
3 refinished M96s and a Remington Classic. I was using them mainly at the range, but managed to take a moose with one last year which thrilled me to no end. In fact I just took 2 of them out of the gun rack this afternoon. I want to try out a product called Blue Wonder, and the old Swedes are going to be my guinea pigs for this project. Best wishes to you.

Concerning the sixpointfive

I grew up with them. I actually had fired hundreds before I shot my first .22 LR. I remember the smell of burnt ballistite and that long barreled Krag Jørgensen from age 9 months – Yes I do!

In those April days of 40, my father went at war with his Krag Jørgensen and ten of those. They had no more, and no further supplies were expected.

They saved him and I’m among the living – say no more.

He coached me for the; one shot, one kill.

It had to be that way. It’s my pet, my sweet I say!

From the other side, e.t.c.

....why don't you let someone else (not a creep) try it?? roflmao

.... I, too, am a shooter of the swede rifle..
...I don't really see me ever retiring it... it's just too darned effective. 140gr Hornady at 2600fps or so = dead deer/pig/coyote/whatever... It just plain works..no frills, no excessive noise, kick, cost. thumb

Antecedents have been my problem since I was a teenager... Perhaps I should have said, "The trigger has a bit of creep, and a varying pull weight of 2.5 to 5.5 pounds." Big Grin

I'm actually on my third Swede. The current one is the M70 I mentioned. It replaced a very accurate but unlovable Ruger M77. The first was actually a Mauser M94 carbine that I paid $29.95 for. Joske's Department Store in San Antonio must have had 300 of them on wooden racks (a different age), and I cleaned cosmoline out of 25 or 30 barrels before I found one perfect enough to spend the equivalent of 30 to 40 lawn mowings. My nephew still has the thing and killed a deer last fall with it.

I assume you are Norwegian? If so, I can understand your love for your country's weapons.

Just acquired my first 6.5X55, a M46B Husqvarna, dated 1942. I loaded 140gr Hornadies over 43gr of H4350. 2.5 inch groups at 100 yds even with my old eyes. What a neat little rifle. Reminds me of the pre-war Oberndorf sporters

Hi all,

This is my first post on this forum and I just had to chime in the 6.5 Swede. Being 1/2 Swedish and 1/2 Norwegian, I have a natural born affinity for this caliber. As a boy I hunted with my Dad's M94 carbine that he sporterized in the 50's. I spent the summer accurizing it and developing handloads in preparation for my Dad to hunt with it last fall. As of today I've owned 3 M96's and 2 M38's and I just won a Winchester Model 70 Classic Featherweight in 6.5x55 on an online auction. I can't wait to get my hands on it and begin developing some good loads for it! In the mean time, I've been toying with the idea of using one of my M96's in a high power match this summer. Can't say enough good things about the Swede!!

Which rifle are you shooting those 85 gr Sierras in? My Howa 1500 can't shoot bullets lighter than 140 grains worth a hoot. Come to think of it, it doesn't do great with the 140's either. What kind of accuracy are you getting with the lightweight bullets? Inquiring minds want to know....

Being a Swede, I started out my "career" with the following calibers, in chronological order:

300 Win Mag
7x57R
458 Win Mag
222 Rem
358 Norma Mag (recently donated to my next of kin)
340 Weatherby Mag

before, today, buying my very first 6,5x55 SE. How bad is that? Wink
