My wife has finally got the nerve to try shooting. She has always been scared of recoil and a little scared of muzzle blast. I took her out a couple weeks ago with my mother to shoot my mothers new pistol, a glock model 37 in 45 gap. Well my wife has always took an interest in what I was doing at the reloading bench and hinted that if she had a rifle that didnt kick, she wanted to take up both hobbies. I have been looking at the spartan gun works (Remington) single shot .223. Has anyone seen one in person or fired one. How is the accuracy. I looks like a nicer rifle than the NEF single shots. She is into the wood grain too so synthetic wont do for her. I appreciate the input.

They're basically the Baikal single-shot rifle. I believe hammer forged barrels that have proven to be accurate enough. I've witnessed a 30/06 shooting close to MOA. The trigger is horrible though and is factory set for Hercules. Personally, I'd look out for a secondhand bolt-action Remington, Winchester or Savage. Cheers... Con

I was handling one today in 30-06 and .308. I was very interested until I saw a price that was simmiler to a new Stevens 200. I'd go with one of those myself. The action of the spartan opens about as hard as my old Bailal single 20ga. and my wife says that it opens too hard (hard on the fingers to squeeze the lever up). --------------------------------- It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it

If you REALLY want your wife to like shooting get her something decent... I'm thinking a Remington 700VLS... it's wood (well... sorta) HEAVY (for a 223) and "kick" is non-exsistant. And out of the box should be a sub-MOA rifle with most of what you might try to feed it... AllanD If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day! Or maybe a nice inexpensive little Savage or Marlin bolt gun with a scope in .17 HRM. Zero kick and usually pretty good accuracy. Sure the ammo costs a bit, but she won't mind....and she'll come to internalize an understanding of why you spend the bucks you do on your part of the hobby. My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

Yep! Light, accurate, and powerful enough, particularly a carbine in 7.62X39mm. This round has VERY light recoil, the CZ is stocked right, and that little round will kill anything a .30/30 will kill and at slightly greater max. ranges, due to the pointed bullets.
