I am looking for some proven loads (fast ones) for the 25-06. I am shooting a Wby. MkV UL 24". Looking for loads with 115, 117, & 120 gr. bullets, with any of the slow burners, from 4350 through RL25.

Thanks in advance, 260 lover [Wink]

I've found that H4831sc works wonderfully in my Remington 25-06 with CCI mag primers and Sierra's 117 gr and 120 gr.
The most acurate load for my Remington was the H 4831 sc and the Sierra 100 gr. Match King. The best load in my old Mark X was the Speer 100 gr hollow point with IMR 4831.
With all of the above I started out at 48 grains and worked my way up to as much as 56 grains.

My 25-06's have all liked 49.0 grains of IMR 4350, CCI200 primers and 117grain Sierra SPBT. That one has worked for 27 years! Another one that I've just found that works in my custom 25-06 and also a Sendero is 48.5 grains of ReLoader19, CCI-250, and the 115 grain BT chronographed @ 3090fps. Consistently under 1/2 inch@ 100 in both rifles. Let us know how it goes! GHD

In the 25/06's that I've worked with 7828 has done fantastic with the 100-120's. Without doubt that is were I would start.

The only real load that's been put through this rifle is:

115 gr. CT Ballistic SilverTip @ 3.21"
52.0 grs. RL19
CCI 200
R-P nickel case
~
3020 fps avg., 1.5" 5 shot group

I have read that the all time classic 25-06 load is 49.0 grs. IMR 4350 & a 120 gr. bullet. I have the following powders (IMR4350, IMR4831, IMR7828, RL22, RL25, and WXR). Gonna shoot what's left of the 115 gr. NBT's, then pick up some other bullets.

todbartell,

I've got a good one, fairly hot so work up to it. Shoots very well in my Ruger M77 MKII. It's a CT 115 BST over 53.4 gr of H4831SC, with a WLR primer and Win Cases. .831 3 shot group. Never got a chance to use it on deer last fall, but we're half way to the next deer season here in MN.

Later,
Dave

I'll talk to you later about the Hockey game. Good luck to you and the Canucks, although I hope we can push you to another game after tonite. I'm afraid the game will be tough for me to stay up for the whole thing, but we'll see what happens.

I shoot the 25-06 quite a bit and have pretty much settled on a load of 54 grains of IMR 7828 over a Fed 215M primer for use with all the heavier bullets.

I have tried other stuff, and RL 22 does pretty well in my rifle, but IMR 7828 seems the best.

With that charge I get over 3100 fps with any of the 115-120 grain bullets I tried. (Nosler, Speer, Hornady, Sierra)

117gr Sierra Gamekings and H4831sc powder.
Don't know the exact grains, don't have my load book here at work.
I am getting just over 3200fps and excellent groups.
This bullet has surprisingly good performance on game.
I have shot two Antelope and 1 deer with this load and all were one shot kills, deer at 250 yards pass through, antelope at 350 yards pass through and another antelope at 250 yards facing me and got about 14 inches of penetration.
The bullet I recovered had a classic mushroom and seemed to have held together well, didn't hit any bones.

Thanks for all the replies.

I loaded up the following, and hope to try them on Saturday.

115 gr. CT Ballistic SilverTips @ 3.22"
IMR 4350, Winchester WXR, IMR 7828, and RL25
CCI BR-2 primer
R-P nickel case

I will shoot for groups and chrony at the same time.

I have the same rifle, Wby ULW .25-06. I tried Hornady 117 BTSP with H4831, but was not impressed with accuracy (1.2") or velocity (3045 fps).

I switched to the Hornady 100 gr SP and 54.0 gr of H4350, and accuracy for 5 shots is 1/2 MOA and velocity 3350.

I like 52.5 RL-22 with 120 grain bullets, should work with the 115 and 117s, too. I use WW brass and primers, and it will do around 3050 in a 24" barrel, usually. I also use 49.5 of H4350 with certain bullets, and it has shot well, but I haven't had time to chrono them yet. For deer, I really like the 100 Partitions and 52.5 of H4350, it's enough bullet, and it penetrates well enough on normal whitetails, and they drop real quickly, too. They make 3250 fps in my 22" Savage, should go faster in a longer pipe.
