Alright, So currently being stationed in S Korea I have alot of time on my hand to research into my next firearm purchases. I have a few lined up that I want and im curious as to a few of there truly accurate ranges. Currently the only small caliber guns I shoot on a regular basis is my Remington 700 chambered in 204 Ruger, I reguarly shoot this gun out to 300 yrds with factory ammo as long as the the weather conditions are good. The calibers im wanting to get are 22 Hornet, 17 Fireball and a 17HMR. I love small caliber guns. and im just looking for some shooting info and what i can expect there accuracy to be at certain distances.

1 more thing, I also shoot my marlin 22 Mag and Marlin 22LR both within 100 yrds usually. I just cant seem to be very accurate with them past that 100 yrd mark.

Why not 222r or 223r they have speed between 22wmr and 204r.

The limitation on small calibers is usually not their trajectory, but the wind sensativity of the light weight bullets. The .204 makes up for some of this with its very high velocity, but cartridges like the Hornet and HMR will give you a hard time at 200 yards in anything but virtually still conditions. The energy of something like the HMR is also marginal at that distance if your target is furry and as large as a prairie dog.

I saw one of your posted that said you were interested in a Ruger 77/22H. It certainly is a sweat looking little gun. My son loves the one I bought for him 12 years ago. As for accuracy, on good days it’s a little killer out to around 200 yards. Wind pushes it around pretty easily but that happens’ too most any of the small caliber cartridges. I don’t know anything about the 17 Fireball except that I would love to play with one. Don’t over look the 17 Remington, 204 Ruger, 20 Tac. Sometimes you feel the need for speed and those babies well do it.

I already own a 204, and shoot it past 200 yrds on a regular occasion. Of course with good conditions, any side to side wind and that bullet grows feet past 75-80 yrds. One of my next purchases is a Ruger 22 Hornet with the heavy barrel. Also a Savage 17HMR that is a 93R17 BTVS, I love that little gun with the thumbhole stock, stanless heavy floating barrel. Im just curious as to what my limits in ranges with these next few purchases. That 17 Fireball intrigues me, it seems to me likes it s 17HMR on speed! 4000fps to be exact... among my other purchases are also a Ruger 223 Mini 14 ranch rifle and a Marlin 450.

Im hoping with good conditions that 17 fireball should be shootable to 300 yrds and still carry a good deal of speed and impact energy. To me that is down right awsome to carry a 25 grain .17 caliber bullet that far and still carry accuracy if the wind isnt blowing like hell. If the wind is blowing I got a few rifles that carry quite a bit more punch. I shoot my Remington 700 Sendero 7mm Mag on regular ocassion to 500 yrds. and my 308 as well... So im really just curious to see what my ranges on these guns will be and still maintain accuracy. I know with my 22LR anything past 75 yrds and the bullet seem to get just a mind of its own. 22 Mag I can get it to about 100 yrds and then its downhill quickly after that.
