Hi guys,

I can buy an new in box Winchester Mod. 70 Heavy Varmint in .243 with the stainless fluted bbl. for $599 at a local gun shop. This is the "no longer made" gun with the HS precision stock.

Anyone want to compare this to the newer Stealth Varmint, which I have read good things about and is less expensive (wholesale).

Thanks!

I've got the Heavy Varmint in a 22-250, but with a blued barrel. I would definitely recommend buying it. The trigger is easily adjusted and breaks pretty crisply. I'm still developing the best load, but so far it's shooting high .3's and low .4's with zero work done to it. Not to mention it has a pretty nice look to it. Haven't seen one with the fluted stainless though. Sounds interesting.

I don't think it will matter. I had a heavy Varminter in 308 that shot well, but I've heard nothing but great remarks about the Stealth. I would buy the stealth if I could find one.
