anyone have any input on these rifles? found one at a local shop that interests me. bolt handle is as flat as can be,heavy barrel. I cant seem to find a lot of info except made in England and not made any more. if the 6MM barrel is worn could this be rebarreled to a 7 x 57 without a lot of work??

Try visiting www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk for information. The really annoying thing about Parker Hale is that they rarely marked anything they made with any model number. There are "clues" from looking at any P-H rifle such as the stock profile and layout, the magazine bottom metal, and you can easily date any P-H from the Proof Mark. They were well made and accurate guns...but barrels do wear out on any gun. So I would price it for what life is left in that barrel and not because of the P-H name.

Yes but It'll run you about $400 complete.... IMO it's a bad investment to buy a gun to rebarrel unless you get the gun almost free! Parker Hale rifles were fine guns and mostly built on Mauser M-98 style actions. A local fella had one in 6mm and blew it up and I bought parts of it and recycled them to other guns. He bought it for $400 and change. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Heck there was a ncie looking one that jsut sold for $275 here on AR. Often the M98 Santa Barbara action. Many didn't care for that action. I had a Parker years ago in a 7mag. Trust me I ran some high pressure loads through it with no issues. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

ronnieg Parker Hale sporterized military 98 actions. They originally started out with a hindged floorplate and later developed a detachable clip model. These were the model 1000 and the 1000C for the clip model. These actions will have the thumb slot on the left side of the action as do all military 98s. When they started running short of good military actions they purchased actions from Brno for a short time. These have the Brno style safety on the right side of the bolt. All the ones I have seen also have "Hussar" stamped on the left side of the action. They only used the Brno actions for a short time and they started to use the Santa Barbra action. This is a commercial style 98 action that was made in Spain. There is no thumb slot on the left side of the action on the Santa Barbra actions. They also have a safety on the right side of the action that blocks the trigger only unlike the earlier Mauser safety that blocks the firing pin.You will hear various opinions about these actions. I have owned a couple dozen of them in 45 years and I have not had any problems with them. Biggest knock I have is some actions could have been finnished a little better. They also made an African version with the Mauser flag type safety and quite servicable open sights. They were availible in 375H&H, 458 and 404. The Santa Barbra actioned rifles were the model 1100 (a lightweight hinged floorplate)version and a model 1200 super with a MonteCarlo type stock and a 1200 C with a clip magazine. Hope that helps you identify your rifle.
