I was going to try and bild a gun from scrach but that ant going to work. So I found that I can get a Thopsen Center Ecore barrle chamberd in 6.5-284 for $260 and was wondering if a 1-8" is what you want for this round. I would like to use it for deer and target shooting but manly hunting is a 6.5-284 ok to take a deer size game at 300+ yards ????

Piece of cake. The twist is almost fast and will easily handle the 140 + grain bullets. The 300 yard issue is point blank!

My 6.5x284 has a 26" long barrel with a 1:8.5" twist, it shoots the 100 grain to 142 grain bullets fine.

500Magman,

is a CZ 6.5x55 long enough in the box to re-chamber with one turn off the barrel?

You don't need to turn the barrel back when rechambering a 6.5x55 barrel to 6.5-284 unless you want a fresh or shorter throat. The 6.5x55 to 6.5-284 is probably 1 of the least challenging rechambering jobs that exists.
