hello all, have a question about the 6.5x284. i want to build one from the ground up. my question is for a good start in long range competition should i buy a custom action or use a factory action to start off. i have an old .243 that doesnt have a barrel or stock, would this work as a starter. down the road i plan on having a fully custom gun built. i guess what i would like to know is should i just go ahead and have the fully custom rifle built or just use what i have. the rifle will also be used for long range varmints. thanks for any help

You didn't say what kind of action your .243 is but unless you can seat bullets to 3.1" or so, your SA repeater will be a single shot. I wanted to build one on a Rem.700SA but w/o a COL of only 2.9"max. you loose too much powder space. I decided on a .260AI instead. I think the 6.5x.284 is better off in a med. to long action.
