Have any of you defied the twist theory in your 22-250s or Swifts? Had any luck w/ 60s? 70s? Reloader

Had a Remington VSSF 22-250 w/14 twist sold the POS didnt matter what bullet I tried. It would shoot 3 out of 5 together then the 4th or 5th would open the group. I did wait for the gun to cool between shots didnt help. Traded my Kimber 45 acp for a XR100 .223 w/12 twist love the rifle don't care for the stock though. I would perfer a benchrest stock with a flat wide forend. The worst group with the .223 at 100yrds was .75" I have had several 3 shot groups that looked like one ragged hole. :-) Swede --------------------------------------------------------- NRA Life Member

MY Savage 22.250 shoots the 55 grainers great but I haven't tried anything heavier in it. My Remington VSSF 22-250 shot the 55 grainers good but shoots the 50 grainers a tad bit better.

62gr. Law Enforcement bullet w/ accurate 86 and h380 have gotten MOA. in my stevens mod. 200 ***22-250. Haven't tried anything heavier yet. May not. The .223 just loves bullets up to 75gr. so probably will save them for that. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. I have one of the Winchester Varmint 22-250 that shoots Hornady HP 60s well with W760. With 55s use Varget. 70s in a 14 twist, forget it. Free men should not be subjected to permits, paperwork and taxation in order to carry any firearm. NRA Benefactor

I have no problems with 60 grain Hornadys or Sierras in my 22.250s with a one in 14 twist... Sierra 63 grain SMPs, Winchester 64 grain SPs and Speers 70 SMP all work just fine in my 22.250s with the one in 14 twist..... other bullets bigger than 60 grains don't work at all... but the above ones should! cheers seafire

Have had several problems with accuracy and/or stabilization with .22-250s and the 1-14" twist. Started getting 1-12 twists, or .223 take-offs and rechambering them for .22-250 and haven't had a problem since. My standard bullet now is a 60grainer. .395 Family Member DRSS, po' boy member Political correctness is nothing but liberal enforced censorship

I have owned a couple of22-250's that shot 60 grain bullets very well both with 14 inch twists. Notably the 60 grain Hollow point from Hornady which is pretty long. But best accuracy in both rifles was with 52 grain Hollow points. The 60's shot MOA though. Leftists are intellectually vacant, but there is no greater pleasure than tormenting the irrational.

Interesting. I've owned several 22-250's and several more .223's. All of which have 1/14 twist. I buy 55gr bullets by the thousands. FYI, a rifle that will cluster 3 and throw out 2 doesn't have a twist problem, it has a bedding problem.

My Sako 22-250 shoots 50's into the quarter inch but 55's are all over the target, 5" groups at a hundred at best, just doesent like em.

I inherited a remington 700 bdl in 22-250. I just got up the nerve to start shooting it. It was my dads rifle and his only centerfire rifle. He BELIEVED in a 22-250. This particular rifle had only been fired maybe 30 times in 14 years. I started working up loads and found that it would group every 55 grain bullet I put through it at .75" for 5 shot groups no matter what the powder charge. That still amazes me. I ordered some of the 50 grain nosler ballistic tips from the seconds store and made my test loads. Viola, 40 grains of Ramshot Big Game and the 50 grain nosler put 5 into a hole just smaller than a dime. I am not sure of the twist rate but it love the ballistic tips and they will turn a 'dillo inside out. Now all I gotta do is get rid of the stinkin tasco scope.

If you're putting 5 shots into a dime, why are you cussing the Tasco scope? Doesn't it cost enough for you? Or what?

I want a clearer, more powerful scope for the 22-250. I am gonna put the tasco on a lever action 35 rem.

I shot a ton of them through .220's, am on barrel no.3. As i shoot no light bullets, I went to a 1-12 twist for this one and it is the best barrel I've had with 55's, although the others were nothing to cry over, they would shoot .5-.6. This one will shoot .3's pretty consistently for 5 shots, and has shot groups as small as .190. It is a medium weight douglas 26 in. in .220AI. If I were buying a barrel I'd go 1-12. A shot not taken is always a miss

Sierra's 55 grain HPBT's shoot well in my 1-14" twist 22-250 with 32.6 grains of Benchmark. Three shots in 1/4" at 100 yards using a 36X scope for load development. It's custom sporter with a 26 inch Douglas barrel. I use Federal 210M primers. Don
