My daughter wants to hunt in the Special Youth Hunt next weekend. I have a youth stock I can put on my 260 Rem AI. Also have 100g Partitions and H-4895 on hand. Hodgdon says you can download 4895 with good success. Was thinking of developing a load that develops 2,800 - 2,900 fps with H-4895. My barrel is 22" long. The Hodgdon manual doesn't list the 100g Partition. They show 38.0g H-4895 and the 95g V-Max getting 3,069 fps. Also, 38.0g with the 107g Sierra achieves 2,950 fps. Both of these are starting loads. Any one have an idea how many grains of H-4895 it will take to hit 2,850 fps? I'm guessing 36.0g - 36.5g.......what do you think?

HW, My daughter shoots a .260 Rem in the 700 DM SS(24") barrel and when we gt it for her I loaded 39.0 grains of VARGET behind the 100 grain Nosler Balistic Tip and she shot it with no problem. I moved up to 40.0 grains, still with great accurracy and no problems from the kid fussing about "kick"! She was 13 and small at that time. She's now grown up somemore at 16 years old and shoots 43.0 grains VARGET and the 100 Nosler. Velocity with the 39-40 grain loadings should have you in that 2900 fps area. With the 43.0 grains she gets 3204 or so. GHD Groundhog Devastation(GHD)

Hogwild: The Hornady manual shows 35-38 grains of H4895 producing 2800-2900 fps with their 100-grain bullets in the .260 Rem, so it sounds like you're in the right zone. --- Eric Ching "The pen is mightier than the sword...except in a swordfight."

Thanks for taking the time and effort to make the gun fit her with that Rem youth stock, and for builing some reduced loads for her too. Between the two of them, a rifle that fits and doesn't kick, she should be off to a good start. It worked with my son, although we used the 6mm Remington instead of a .260 Rem. Regards, Guy
