Oh heck, I had a good day at the range and thought I'd post up!

Two loads are on this target:

Cluster #1: .257 Bob, 47 gr. H4350, 100gr. SGK

Cluster #2: .257 Bob, 44gr. H4350, 110gr. AB.

It's rather interesting to me to see how distinct the clusters are. The SGK's, both 100 & 117's group just like the upper cluster. Nice, tight, 1/2" groups. AB's have a close enough point of impact but group in the 1" category.

The rifle: Rem. M7 Mannlicher CS.

Anyway, was a good day!

Regards,

Robert

Actually both loads are acceptable for hunting deer etc.....both are respectable and worthy of stretching the "Bob" a very long ways.

That cartridge is among the best of all time.... and thanks for the photos and report.

I've been seriously considering the 110 accubonds in my Bob as well.....great deer medicine one would suspect!

Nice group with the sierra game king.
I have 2 bobs an AI-Bob, and a 25,06 and can't get anyofthem to shoot that 110 qacubond worth a hoot.
In all fairness, I don't think I have tried itr in the AI yet.
So far may bets bullets for acuracy have been the 100 grain TSXs and balistic tips.
120 grain partitions have been acurate too but slower than I want for where I hunt.
What kind of bob you shooting. ?
Great round But I just bought a .257 weatherby mag (remington) I already know its going to be a dandy.

Hey Vapo, if you want some AB's, let me know. I've got 54 in a box... PM me and we'll talk.

Thomas,

I've got a Remington M7MS from the Rem Custom Shop, topped with a Leupold VX III 2.5-8 on quick release rings. I bought it in '06 as celebration of a very good year. It's truly been everything I've ever wanted.

As an aside, I haven't been able to do any better than 1" groups with the AB's or Partitions (as if that isn't acceptable...). Hornady SST's group just under an inch and are absolutely devastating. The way they expand I wouldn't hesitate to consider them a "dual use" bullet and use them on Coyote's.

Anyway, the quarterbores are truly a wonderful way to go!

Regards,

Robert

Mr Novi..

I have to admit, I love every time you post that picture of that rifle...

that is just a beautiful hunk of hardware...the only thing I'd modify is the scope choice, and that would only consist of a different powdered Luepold...

I considered on just like that in 260 when it was offered... and decided against it.. probably so I could kick msyelf for not doing so for the next 30 + years...

of all the neat rifles I see posted by other members on here, I have to admit.. yours is my favorite!

Just looked on their web site, and I can still get one..

except when I was looking at them originally, they are $1300.00 list price... now they are over $2900.00!

as pretty as I thought they were, $1300 was a little high I thought.. $2900... well I won't even go there..

but it still doesn't take away from it being a gorgeous rifle!

Seafire2, I have a m7ms in .308 that I bought off Gunbroker.com a few years ago for a round $600. The rifle shot terrably because the muzzel cap was improperly installed, now it's a 3/4" rifle. It is my favorite tree stand rifle & if I had to cut down to 1 rifle it would probably be it.

A local sporting store has a 260 m7ms in their store room. You could probably get it for about $1,200. PM me if you want a contact.

Tom,

I'd love it, but unfortunately with gas where it is right now.. that and a lot of other things just aren't in the family budget...

Seafire Jr's involvement in Scouts this summer and varsity cross country in the fall, are also making a substantial drain on the old family budget...

If I bought something like that for $1200.00 my wife would probably load it and shoot me with it! lol

but I sure appreciate the sentiment!!!

rnovi,
Have you played with the seating depth on the AB's?

I think you could tighten it up by tweaking that.

Well, I've thought of it but I think I'm stuck in the proverbial "Rock & Hardplace". The M7 is a true 2.800" short-action rifle. My loads are pushed to 2.800" - max to the magazine. I might be able to push to 2.810 or .815...but that's gonna be tight.

On the other hand, I could measure the distance to the lands and truly do a max-length loading...but I'd have to single load...still it might be worth the experiment.

Regards,

Robert

I have the same magazine length problem on my 700 SA in 257 Roberts. Not that it is a huge problem.

You may be able increase the distance to the lands and get better groups.

I know everybody talks about 0.01, but in my experience, I get better groups closer to 0.03 with Hornady's and Nosler's and 0.05 with Barnes. I don't think I have one load that is real tight to the lands.

Just an idea for you to play with, if you really want to use the AB's.

Those Sierra's are grouping very nice and will do anything you ask them to in hunting situations.

Thank you for posting about your rifle. I have enjoyed your 257 Roberts threads from the beginnning. More important though, is how you are enjoying your 257 Roberts. It really comes through in your posts.
