I am seriously thinking about buying a new savage in 25-06. I am looking at the 110 FP and the 112BVSS. The only differences I see are stocks and barrel length. Any experiences or suggestions here? Does a 25-06 need a 26 inch barrel to perform its best?

I think the powder is burnt by the time the bullet gets out to 24". I don't actually notice any muzzle flash out of my 22" for that matter and I'm using pretty slow burning powder, like RL22 and IMR 7828.

If you plan on using this rifle mostly off the bench/sandbags etc... then the longer barrel can only be a positive.

I bought a Savage 110FP in 25-06. I was looking at the 111 with a 22" barrel and determined that the 110FP 24" heavy barrel only weighed 1 pound more than the 22" light barrel on the 111. I'm getting .75" three shot groups (100 yds)without playing with the OAL using 120 grain Nosler Partitions. 100 grain Ballistic tips are under .75".

The 25 06 is a very accurate round. Even my crappy out of the box A-Bolt shoots many different loads sub MOA all day long with a 22" barrel. Lethal on mulies too!

In my books if you get the model that has .270 Win stamped where 25-06 Rem is stamped it will better do anything the latter stamping does.

Well, I already have a 270. I just didn't know what the 112 had to offer over the 110. The difference in price is about $110.

My 270 is a hunting rifle, I need something for bench shooting. I am even thinking about selling my 270. I never shoot it.

I have the BSSS 112 and really like it for shooting off the bench! The flat forearm and heavy palm swell make a nice steady platform to shoot off a sinclair front rest.It rides in the bags nice and shoots 115 grain berger VLD bullets very well.I have shot in in a couple of the local varmit shoots and at 400 yards have shot some impressive groups for me.The only probelem I had was only worring about the 400 yard targets.Shot some piss poor groups at 200 because of practicing only for the 400 yard targets.I think you would be ahead to spend the extra money and stay away from the plastic stocked gun, but that JMHO!

i have the 110fp in 25/06. it is the most accurate rifle i have ever owned and i've had a few in 52 years. this one loves IMR4831 and RL19. it also loves 100gr nosler part. and bal.tips. it also does very well with 75gr V-max. on a good day when old hands and eyes do their job i have shot groups in the .45 to .50 range at 200yds. imho the 25/06 is one of the 2 or 3 best rounds out there.

GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING

Thanks guys. I looked at several savages this past weekend. I want the 25-06, but I have to replace my 22-250 first (someone offered me too much money for it). So I think I will get the 12FVSS in 22-250 first and then the 110. I did look at the laminated version but that thing is just too heavy. I don't mind heavy guns, but that gun is a chunk. Plus, I already own several laminated guns so looking for something different.
