A friend recently showed me a rifle his grandfather gave him. It is a Mauser in 6.5x57.
I started thinking about it and can see it being perfect for whitetails. Does anyone use one and what has been your experience with it?

I have one. It's another really well balanced cartridge like the 6.5 x 55 and 260 Remington. Cases can be had from RWS or Sellier & Bellot, or you can resize 257 Roberts cases.

A lot of people use 6.5 x 55 starting loads and work up, and Hornady has loading data (which I think one should stick with in an older Mauser). In a Rem 700 or other newer action it can be loaded to fall somewhere in between the 260 Remington and 6.5 x 284.

Yes, I have 6,5x57 Mannlicher Schönauer. You could load mentioned caliber a tad more powered than 6,5x55 and it´s very good "medicin" for example white tail deer.

Interesting I should see this today. Yesterday a friend of mine and I were discussing sort of this very thing. We came to the conclusion that just about any cartridge based on the 8 X 57 and the 30-06 was a pretty darn good cartridge. The 6.5 X 57 certainly falls in that category. Probably one of the better 6.5's out there.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I am a Mannlicher-Schoenauer addict and I would like to hear of your MS 6.5x57. Would you please start another thread and tell us about your rather rare, in the U.S. at least, MS?

I have a 6.5x57R in a DR. Just about perfect whitetail medicine in a low recoiling, small frame, flat shooting caliber.

Talk to ChopperGuy, he had a rimmed version and has lot's of load data.

Picked up dies for a 6.5-257 Roberts recently on eBay. Plan to build one on a Mexican Mauser action.

my favorite cartridge....

had one built on a Model 70 Long Action with a 28 inch heavy magnum barrel...built as a long range shooter...

built on a long action, the bullets seated to magazine length and the barrel throated to take a cartridge that length, mine can pretty much rivel 6.5 /06 velocities, while using less powder, since I have less neck tension to deal with...

a good 140 grain bullet, it will reach waaaay out there...and with a 100 grain bullet, you can get some mind boggling velocity... and the 120s are well balanced in between the two...

even tho I have the 260s and the 6.5 x 55s, I love the one 6.5 x 57 the most...

A friend has a DR in 6.5x57...the first centerfire Falling Block DR built by Bailey Bradshaw. He's now having a new BB rifle built min a 2-barrel set, so he wants to move out the 6.5x57. It is set up for scope use. Probably around $8,500 if anyone is interested.

The 6.5x57 is a top medium game round.

Since you have a true 6.5X57, you would be best off using 7X57 brass if you do not order 6.5X57 specifically.
