I placed an order to get in on a group buy on another forum for this rifle.

Specs are:

- Montana Rifle Company Extreme X2 (stainless/synthetic)
- 243 Winchester
- 22" barrel, #2 MRC Contour
- 1 in 8" twist (stamped on barrel)
- MRC X2 standard gray stock
- 20 right hand rifles, 5 left hand rifles
- $1075.99 (plus shipping to your FFL)

I'd been putting together parts to build an 8 twist .243 on a CM M700 short action. I have the donor and the B&C Mountain Rifle ADL stock and was looking hard at different barrel makers for the right contour. I think I just saved a lot of money, but really not ready for this rifle in the next couple of months. Guess I might have to open the safe and sell off a couple queens to pay for my new rifle.

You didn't screw up. That is a really nice rifle for the price. What's it weigh?

That Montana may end up being cheaper than the sum of your parts and gunsmithing.
Looks like a nice rifle, what do they weigh?

I know it'll be cheaper, that's why I jumped on it. I was figuring another $350 for barrel and and that would put me at $950+ just for the parts alone. I don't think I can get the barrel installed for $125 to make it even money. Plus that isn't including parts to remove the J-lock, new trigger (if needed), or Wyatt's extended magazine box to get me to the same coal the MRC rifle magazine allows. Plus I get a bonus of an old style M70 trigger in the MRC.

I'm thinking it should go right at 7 lbs, Montana Rifle Co list it at 6lbs 14oz on their web page. They are wrapping up a group buy on the same rifle in .260 Rem with #3 contour barrel with flutes, and it weighed 7 lbs even. Here is how the .260 looks:

Your desire and logic is understood?
old I for one would have gotten far more enjoyment in putting it together myself, maybe with a little help.
If it really were a money issue you could have mounted a scope on a Mod.96 and killed a whole lot of deer at 1/5 the cost. beer roger

Roger, I had a M96 Swede. I could never get it to shoot better than 2". Anyway I sold it to a buddy along with a new Shilen barrel because I was tired of waiting to get around to it.
