Was wondering if any owners of a .25-20 Winchester reload using Lil'gun powder? I have a Winchester Model 43 bolt action in this caliber and was wondering if this would work in my .25-20 using 75 grain bullets? <Thanks in advance>

I would not use it. I have read a where it super heats in rifles and handgun. causing barrel damage
It was intended for 410 shot shells
I would use h110 or ww296.

I don't understand. I am reading Lil'Gun is great when used in the .22 Hornet or .218 Bee; so why not the .25-20 Win??

I've loaded the .25-20 for many years and always with the 60 grain Hornady.....but the 75 will certainly work.

I'd prefer a different powder as you can get better performance, but Hodgdon's lists the H-110 and I'd not hesitate to use regardless of what "someone read"

Check for a AA powder.....I won't list the number as I'm not sure of it any more.....also I believe I used 2400 years ago.....

Go to Hodgdon's website and use the best perfornming powder.....but if they list it.....I'd not hesitate to use it.

Thanks, vapodog. I've been using the following powders in my Model 43 Winchester: IMR-4227, 4198, & SR-4759 with success, using 60 to 86 gr. bullets. Just wondering if Lil'Gun is okay for my .25-20, as I have plenty of it for my Hornet.

This issue has been around for a couple years with lilgun . Bob Baker from Freedom arms first brought it to light.
they claim that it burns hotter than other powders?
I read about it on another forum (1911 forum)
That's what I know . some of the damage was done in as little as 600 rounds.
I used it in my 222 and had good accuracy. no apparent damage
It would be interesting to see what Hodgdon has to say.
I will not use it until more info is out there.

Thanks, Dave. I think I'll contact Hodgon to see what they say. How much of a charge of Lil'Gun do you use in your .222 Rem.? Currently I am using 19.5 grains of IMR-4198 with a 50 grain bullet.

Thanks, hivelocity!! I am sure curious about this issue with Lil'Gun powder. All the reloading data list it for the Hornet.

There's a thread at marlinowners.com devoted to the .25/20 (110 pages plus and counting), and the gold standard there seems to be 4198 (H or IMR), but LilGun is mentioned. Personally, I've found that WW296 (or H110) gives me five shot strings of sub plus or minus five FPS just about all the time with 90 grain cast bollets. I'm pretty sold on it.

Porosonik.
