I bought a DPMS AR-15 at wally world for $587 a few weeks ago. Slapped a Buckmaster scope on it and took it to the range. I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

This was at 100 yards. I took my time shooting but nothing fancy, a rolled up bag to rest on and took all of a minute to shoot. I paused a couple seconds between shots to make solid attempts at hitting the bullseyes.

The bottom target is my 9 year old daughters. she shot fairly quick with about a second between shots. I was looking through the spotting scope while she was shooting and was just tickled as can be. maybe next time I'll have her slow down but she was really having fun.

I loaded some 60 partitions and 70 Barnes TTSX to give the rifle a try this deer season. Big Grin

It doesnt seem to like the 70 TSX but the 60 partitions are about an inch.

I was thinking about getting one of those as a backup to the one I have. Looks like it may be a good investment.

Yes, the things are fun to shoot and you will need a lot of ammo.

I have a couple of AR15's that I have recently started shooting and loading a few rounds for. Both shoot sub moa with several brands of ammo and handloads on low humidity days. When I take them out on a high humidity day, one shoots almost as well as any other day but the other AR (Bush Master) shoots groups that open up to as much as 2". Loads that will shoot .5"-1" open up to 1.5"-2". Any suggestions on a cure for that? I have seen groups open up a little with a change in weather conditions but this seems extreme.

I bought a Sig enhanced 400 from Wally world and am well pleased with the accuracy from it also. I shoot one three shot group at .81 at a 100 yards in some wind. I'm still getting use to it and will need some more "roaming and plinking" time with it but it has some possibilities this fall.

That's great news on your daughter and she has some great potential. Keep her going with you and good luck.

I didn't think I'd ever buy one. Then I found one for a deal I couldn't refuse and picked it up. It's a little plain Jain DPMS with a 16 inch Heavy barrel and it fits the front rack of the 4 wheeler without hanging over the sides. It shoots a 52 grain match bullet I bought as seconds very well. It shoots Barnes 50 grain Varminator Extremely well. My grandson shot a 60 round group, (2 clips), that was less than
two and a half inches. Just one big hole on the paper.

Rmiller, the Barnes 70 is probably too long to stabilize well in the 1:9 twist that most of the DPMS ARs come with. Although the .223 remains a bit controversial for deer, that Nosler is a very fine choice for this application.

The 70 Barnes seemed to stabilize they just dont land close enough together for my tastes.

As much as I love Barnes X bullets 9 times out of ten they shoot like crap for me. I try to hunt with Barnes x bullets whenever possible but many times that means I plan on using them at 100 yards or less. Luckily 99% of my shots at game are 100 yards or less. Right now I have two rifles that are shooting the Barnes X's well. A 223 WSSM with 55 TTSX and a 25-05 with 80 TTSX's. Those two rifles have 300 yards covered if need be.
