I'm in the process of building a 6.5x57 on a Mk X action and it will have a 23in Lothar Walther barrel. I'm looking for few opinions/experiences with the 140gr corelokt at 6.5x55 velocities. John

I have no personal experience with the corelokt bullets but those I know who do, are very pleased with them and shoot them in 6.5, 7mm & .308 caliber rifles. Good luck and keep us posted.

That's what I use in my .260 and they are hammers!! I've danced with every new girl in town but I'm re-learning that the plain-jane locals have got a lot to offer. Aim for the exit hole

Not 6.5, but I have used 100 gr. C/L's for my .257 Bob exclusivley for over 30 years. Great performance on deer and hogs. DRSS(We Band of Bubba's Div.) N.R.A (Life) T.S.R.A (Life) D.S.C.

I have used the 140 Core-lok from Remington for the deer and such around here often and with good results. As the other poster said-- "sometimes the locals have a lot to offer"! I , too, have danced with the best and, with the possible exception of African game, see little to no need for the 2.00 ea bullets. The Coreloks and the Sierra Gamekings are just fine. I have a 6.5X257 that likes a lot of different bullets and dislikes some others with no ryhme or reason. It HATES 140 Core Lokts. YMMV and I HOPE IT DOES. Don't limit your challenges . . . Challenge your limits

I haven't used them in 6.5, but I have put plenty of them from .243 through .311 downrange and through plenty of critters, in both factory and handloads. Keep them within a reasonable 28-3000fps range and they perform as advertised, "the deadliest mushroom in the woods". My last work up was with a 28" barreled 25-06 AI in which the 120gr CL was pushing 3300fps. I put it through a 250+ pound feral boar hog at about 110 yards. I fully expected it to have blown to bits at that velocity, but it held together just fine and came to rest under the hide on the opposite shoulder. Considering the 1.5" gristle plate covering both sides, plus blowing through both shoulders, I was very pleased with this results, and damage was WAY less than expected. If your inclined here is a link to the pics of it and what it did, http://s49.photobucket.com/alb...1nag/Hunting%202010/ When it opens, just click on the "view all" tab and they will be the last ones posted with the dog. (he thought he was doing a good job, I hated to tell him the hog wasn't gonna fight back.) If you look at most of the other pics with hogs, the vast majority of them were taken with a Ruger Compact in .308 and standard factory CL loads at ranges of 20' to over 400yds. I haven't found anything for that rifle which shoots as accurate or drops as reliably. Mike / Tx

I have a 6.5 x 57 on a Model 70 action, with a 28 inch heavy magnum contour barrel and a one in 8 twist... and it was throated to accept 140 grain Corelokts magazine length from a Model 70.. seated to the first cannelure.. the barrel is Pac Nor, and is a tack driver.. 40 grains charge, using RL 15, IMR 4064, IMR 4895 and a host of other powders, give it an MV in the 2800 fps range.. I can push it faster, but as Sierra's Tech line pointed out, most 6.5 bullets perform the most accurately at about 2800 fps MV.. and my rifle bears that out.. even tho they can be pushed faster, you'd be surprised on how flat shooting 2800 fps can be with them..

My current Ruger #1 K1-A will shoot 140 CL's Sub Moa all day long, and as above, they fly flat as any 140 spitzer will at a good speed. Doing around 2700 w/my load presently - 22" bbl. On game, have used the 120 version w/deadly results. Accuracy I believe is better, and trajectory, w/140s, by a small margin and the 140s are just better suited in this bullet than the 120s for 6.5s the further out you go. Yet, at close/modest ranges, the lighter recoiling 120 version will do a bang up job on deer as well as water filled milk jugs and 2 liter plastic bottles. My current fav for 6.5 is the 130 AB, for all around, but if I were hunting the biggest nastiest critters, I'd load up some 130gr Barnes, they are reported in test to outpenetrate most any other bullet. See page 3 (if you are not logged in) to compare - I would expect the Corelokt to act very similar to the Hornady 140. http://www.24hourcampfire.com/...php/topics/1481504/3

I shoot the 140gr corelokt's in my 1896 Sweed. With a max load of H4831, WLRM primer and Win brass it shoots near MOA with iron site at 100 yards, well, at least when I do my part....

Many thanks for the responses. I've got some 120grCL and 140gr interlocks to play with as well and most of the powders mentioned, so I'm confident I'll find a combo that works.

Everything I've heard is that the 6.5 140gr is an excellent big game bullet. I know several very experienced hunters who swear by them in their 260's. I mostly shoot a 260 in an Encore handgun so I use the 120gr Core-lokts for a little less recoil and they work great but I think the 140 is probably the better of the two.

Many people have forgotten or didn't know to begin with that Rem Core-lokts, Hornady Interlocked and Winchester Power Points were the ORIGINAL "premium" bullets and have been around longer than some have lived. They probably take more game each year than all the other "premium" bullets combined. I've been using them for as long as I can remember going clear back to 7th grade and my first 30-30 Win 94...at least one bullet weight...in almost every one of my rifles below 375 cal and I keep putting the meat on the table. Of course I HAVE to try out every new bullet that comes down the pike, but it is hard to decide the difference between dead and dead. I haven't tried the 140 gr Core-Lokt in my two 6.5 Swedes yet, because they both like the Nos 125 Part, but that bullet it on my to try list. I'm guessing they will shoot just as accuate as all the others have proven. Maybe the Hornady might shoot slightly better but that is up to the rifle, shooter and load. Luck
