The Hornet, which is a perfectly capable round, seems even a little small for this part of the forum, but don't know where else to put it apart from "small calibres".

Have been very impressed with new - to Australia at least of Hornady 35g bullet ammo. Seems very accurate and along the lines of the 30/30 etc LeverEvolution ammo in extending effective range.

Can anyone give some info on the ammunition. The Hornady site, apart from being an ad, did not give any real detail as to the ammmunition.

The 35 grain Hornady V-Max has been one of the most accurate bullets in two of my Hornets. It hasn't done as well in the one rifle I've just acquired, but maybe that's because I haven't stumbled on the right combination of powder/primer, etc.

The terminal performance of the little 35gr VMax on small varmints is awe-inspiring. Even with a reduced load (around 2500 fps), it separated a cottontail into two pieces and rolled one of the pieces several feet from the other. Several of us witnessed this and were somewhat dumbfounded that such a small bullet at relatively modest velocity could have this effect. Needless to say, this is not the right bullet for frontal brain shots on elephant, but for small vermin it is impressive.

I haven't used the Hornady factory loads (don't believe in factory loads, myself Wink), but their bullets are presumably identical to those offered handloaders, so should behave similarly.

I love them in my Contender carbine. There are probably better bullets for long range, like most of the 40 grainers but I love the terminal performance on ground squirrels, gophers, close prairie dogs even a fox within 150 yards. They are explosive on the smaller critters and don't leave an exit wound on the bigger ones. They destroy an area about the size of an orange at about three inches deep. DW

Like Stonie, we haven't used the factory ammo but we've loaded a bunch of the Hornday V-Max 35 grainers in .22 Hornets.

Occaisionally a Manufacturers gets it right and IMO Hornady has a real winner with these bullets in Hornet sized cartridges. The accuracy of these tiny bullets so far has been stellar when we stumble upon the right load.

Using Lil Gun & AA1680 with these bullets we've obtained accurate loads with velocities in the jsut over 3000fps range. On game up to the size of Foxes - pretty spectacular terminal perfomance also.

Like dwheels mentioned above; when hit in the ribs the Foxes just sorta slosh around on the insides when you pick them up.....

We've tried them in .222 & .223 Remingtons too, while these bullets weren't intended for these two cartridges the accuracy at 100 meters (furthest tried) has been satisfingly good. We were surpised they actually arrived at the targets. Expected a puff of "Blue Smsoke" outa the muzzle.

Cheers,
