I went out looking for a set of grips for my super redhhawk, and came home with a set of 7 BR dies and two boxes of loaded ammo. Not sure exactly how that transpired, something about better laid plans [Wink]

Anyhow, as I recall Nosler's data in a 14" tube is darned right impressive, I figure a 22" rifle tube will add another 300 fps to that. Would a 120 gr @ 3000 fps be reasonable? The real head scratcher is what is a suitably svelte rifle to hold such a round.

I'd love to have one of the Charles Daly mini Mauser's set up for the 22-250 as a basis for a BR round. If they can ever start shipping the actions over here I may build one in 6mmBR.

Montanna Rifle Company will be building a mini Model 70 copy, but they are about a year out. Either it or the Charles Daly would be superb for a light stalking rifle in a PPC or BR round.

I've got a factory XP-100 Silhouette in 7mm BR. It has a 10 1/2" barrel and goes 2270 fps with the 120 gr Ballistic Tip. Also averages under 1 MOA with that load. Has worked very well on a few West Texas whitetails out to 200 yards. The 140 gr CoreLokts have worked well on large hogs too. The current Hodgdon Annual Manual lists loads for the 7mm BR in a 24" barrel. They max out the 120 gr VMAX at 2650 fps at 49,800 CUP which seems low to me. I suspect 2800 fps is safely achieveable but I doubt 3000 fps is realistic. Win 748 has worked best for me.

I get 2604fps out of a 14.5 inch xp-100 using 28.5 grains of Reloader 7 and a Fed Match primer and the 120 grain Vmax! Tried it a bunch of times and unless the chronograph is lying I think 3000 out of a 22 inch barrel would be entirely possible. I also think you would be hard pressed to find a more suitable caliber to chamber an ultralight whitetail rifle for! One of these days I'll get that done! GHD

About 8 years ago, I had a lightweight 7mm Rem BR rifle built on a Sako M591 action. It was built w/deer hunting in mind and it performed admirably when I did my part. Factory 140 grain loads chronographed at 2,400 fps from the 21" barrel. I could get the 120's (Nosler BT's and Hornady SSP's) to a bit over 2,700 fps, but nothing close to 3,000 fps. A 7mm-08 maybe, but not a 7mm BR...the case is just too small.
