I've been tinkering w/ a few loads in my new 22-250 (XR100). Thus far I've tried 52 grn Sierra MKs, 55 grn BKs, and 52 grn Hdy Amax. I've pushed them w/ Varget, H4895, H4350, H380, and 2015BR.

Most of the loads have done well but, the Amaxes have proven to be the prefered bullet from this rifle so far out of these three but, all 3 shoot well. Matter of fact several different combos have done well in this tube. I just started development w/ the 2015BR last week, I shoot two groups one w/ 32 grains and one w/ 32.5 grains pushing the Amaxes and both are in the .2s I believe(haven't miked em' yet). The 2015BR seems like it's definitely going to be a dynomite combo w/ the Amaxes.

Any of you have a pet load for the 22-250? It seems like this tube is going to do well w/ many combos.

Reloader,

My pet has always been 40gr. of 4350. How does the 2015BR compare to 4350 in group size?

Don't know anything about 2015. Fill me in. Double based, stick etc.?????

Thanks for the info.

Jim

I am shooting 55 grain nosler BT, pushed with 36.2 grains of IMR 4064. This load groups very well in my weepon, 5 shot groups at .500 or so... even had a three shot group at .306

Sure makes the P-dogs sprout wings.

I am in the process of trying to consolidate to the use of benchmark for three calibers. I have fantastic results with this in my 204's.and my 243... Anyone use benchmark for their 22-250?

I am going to do some load testing with benchmark on the 22-250 this weekend... If it compares to the IMR 4064 I will more then likely change. But it is going to be hard to beat the 4064 in my weepon...

I've tried most of the "Popular" 22-250 powders. The two that came out the most consistent and fastest in my 22-250 were; IMR 4895 and Benchmark. I am using a 50 V-Max or a 50 Blitzking. Using H4895 was a little bit of a disappointment after IMR's version it just was not as consistent. The IMR 4895 has had the best groups the Benchmark is on its heels. The Benchmark hands down delivered the best velocity of any powder in my gun.

It's a small stick. I have not done enough w/ it yet to give a firm opinion on it but, I will say that I only shot two groups w/ it friday and they are two of the best from this rifle thus far. The 4350 loads do shoot pretty good from this rifle and have good velocity but, I have a good feelin' this 2015BR is going to beat it.

pdhntr, I haven't tried it yet but as small as the sticks are on this 2015, I bet it will throw well from a powder measure.

I'm in Turkey mode right now but in about three more weeks I'll be back out to the range to run a few more loads through her and get a better idea on the 2015.

I use 2015 in other cartridges but haven't in the 22-250. Since it's burning rate is between 4198 and 3031 I never evisioned it as the appropriate powder for the 22-250. It may well be.

EekerPoints of interest . The data given here was taken in a Stevens Mod 200 light hunting barrel. We are getting good results with WCC846 also. beerroger

Thanks for the info. I would be interested in your results if you do a comparison of the two. PM me if you want. I wouldn't change anything for this summer at this point so I certainly am not in a rush. Good luck turkey hunting.

When I was just a kid (30 years ago) and had just started my reloading career at the age of 14 I went to great lengths to "develop" the perfect load for my 22/250 shooting 50 grain Sierra's. I loaded and shot hundreds of rounds diligently tabulating the results and when all the shots were in and everything totalled up my best groups were from 38 grains of H380 and the 50 grain bullet. I was ecstatic with the results and the fact that all my research had paid off. When I told my neighbor, a long time reloader and his buddy they laughed at me and told me that everyone that loads for a 22/250 knows that load and that I should have just read about it instead of going through all that trouble. They even informed me that "H380" the name was a derivitive of the load 38 grains of that powder for a 22/250. The point is it still is "my" pet load today.
I really should try some others though!

    Reloader,
I've got a soft spot for 2015BR, that said if you have some Benchmark try it you might be very surprised.
My go to load is 35.4 grians of BM with a 40grain bullet. It's not all that hot but shots in the 2s and 3s in all three of my 22-250's.

Seems like several of you have had good luck w/ 4064 and Benchmark. Might have to give em both a whirl.

    Thanks

A fellow member and I have had real good luck with Reloder 10x. The preferred bullet appears to be the 52gr Sierra HPBT Matchking, however the powder has worked fairly well with several bullets.

As Jesse Jackson would have said in the 60's:
Right on, right on, right on......

Try 30 grains of RL 7 also....I think it will even be better than Benchmark...( with 45 thru 60 grain bullets, use 30 grains)....

34.5 grains with a 40 grain bullet, will send it screaming at 4450 fps out of a 26 inch barrel...still maintaining no pressure signs.. at least in my 4 different 22.250s...

Still tinkering with my Tikka Varmint (only 90 rounds through it so far), but my most accurate load so far produced a .305 group with 36.1 gr. of W-748, 50 gr. V-Max., Fed. 210 primer, mixed cases, and OAL of 2.46". So far I've used Varget, IMR-4895, H-380, IMR-4064, and W-748 with 50 and 55 gr. V-Max. and all have shot 1' or better with a few in the .4's and .5's. I only tried the W-748 because I have (4) old cans of it!!! Have not run any over the chrono yet, but if it shoots 0.5" or better, I really don't care how fast its going!
