I was suprised to see a Model 600 in a gunshop I frequent, complete with warped plastic vented rib, warped plastic trigger guard, rough stock and 18 inch barrel. I wish it had been in better shape, the little thing handled nicely! Are these things worth $600 US? I guess to somebody but I could not see it...

I have never been impressed with the Model 600s, specifically for the reasons you list. But it has been a long time since they were available, and they have developed almost a cult following. Was it worth $600? Probably not. Will someone pay that for it? Undoubtedly...

Blue Book high in 100% $450 with an 18.5 inch barrel but the one described would be lowest $155 with a damaged stock.

I know of a shop with one in 6mm, I think he wants 550.00. With some old scope on it...tj3006 freedom1st

one of the older blue steel model 7's in 18.5 inch barrel would be a better choice if you had to have an 18 inch .243..I guess something like this would not be for me the only cult I follow is the cult of practicality!

It's worth what ever some dummy is willing to pay. This dummy wouldn't pay more than $150...if I wanted it real bad!

I've got a 660 in 308. Wouldn't give you $200 for another but wouldn't let you have this one for anything!

A neat little rifle for sure. But you would be better off with a new Model 7 for less than $600 My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

It would probably bring about $350 to $400 on an auction site. You can easily get $300 for just the action. They are very light weight and folks like to build off of them. Weagle.

My thoughts exactly. Unless you just gotta have that ugly-ass bolt handle!

Methinks it's a case of beauty is as beauty does. I bought a Remington 660 back in the early 1970s when I felt the need for something with some power (.308 Win.) and reasonably light weight. I thought the stock was butt ugly, but a nice Mannlicher style stock fixed that. Then in the early 1980s, Remington recalled the 600s and 660s due to an unsafe trigger/safety problem. The repair left a bigger gap in the trigger area and the asswipes that replaced the trigger fail to seal the stock in that area. While hunting in a very heavy raid storm that sprung up during the hunt, the stock took in enough water to split. I replaced it with an early H&S Precsion stock at the time when they still had their plant in Prescott Arizona. The rifle still sits in that stock and has been the undoing of many a der and the shooter of many thousands of rounds. At the 5,000 round mark, I had to replace Remington's silly little ring extractor which finally word out. I agree up to a point that the bolt handle isn't the prettiest around, but take this into consideration, If it were not shaped that way, it would probably rap the hell out of your knuckles every time you shot the gun. A friend of mine with a 600 Mohawk did change the bolt handle and he gets bruised knuckles when shooting the gun. Beauty is as beauty does, and the 600/660 do it. Paul B.

...ugly..hardly.... For me they are the fastest handing bolt action made and a joy to carry in the woods. I have the 6.5, .350, a .308 and a 222 rechamber to .223 Mohawk that has never shot a group over .5" at 100. As to value, a mint .308 just sold on Gunbroker for $580.00. .243 and 6mm Remingtons often bring in the $600s. To me it's about balance and handling and the M600s just have it...just wish I had bought one 20 years ago... Bob
