In one of my replys regarding CZ 527 rifles I stated that I was considering a rebarreling job on a 527 in 7.62 X 39 to 6.5 X 39 hoping for 2600 fps with a 125 gr Nosler and 20" bbl. Looks like that was optomistic. Does anyone have experience with the 6.5 X 39?

since the 7.62x39 only does 2400fps with a 125gr you will never make that speed with the 6.5mm

I'm obviously far from a ballistics expert. Would you deduce from the above that I could get 2400 fps from the 6.5 125 gr? Thanks.

The 7.62 x 39 is loaded to a standard pressure of about 45,000 psi or cup, depending on the reference source. The case is fully capable, in a modern turnbolt, of working pressures in the 50 to 54,000 range. If you load your 6.5 x 39 up to those pressures, it would likely match the velocity of the 7.62 with the same weight bullets, depending on the nature of the individul barrel.

OK Stonecreek, thanks. I'm going to try it. Appreciate your advice.

I saw an article in Handloader the Chinese steel case 7.62x39 is loaded to 55,000 cup, it makes 2400fps with a 122gr bullet in a 16" barrel.

I just got an e-mail from Shilen saying they can chamber this round. I haven't found out any specifics yet, but they can do it.
