This program is starting to gain traction. Remember this round wasn't designed for deer hunting or long range varmint hunting. It was designed to increase the punch available out of the M-16/M-4 weapons platform while still maintaining a respectable rounds count in the magazines. That it does in fine fashion.

Anyway, the point of this post is that I was reviewing some recent test results. The accuracy testing has been extremely gratifying, and the standard deviations for both pressure and velocity are the best I've ever seen for a bottle necked cartridge.

Feedback from the field on the CZ 527 rifles tarted up with the Lothar Walther barrels have also been uniformly glowing.

With the appropriate bullet this cartridge is suitable for moderate sized deer out to moderate ranges. It would also make a nifty walking varmint rifle for wood chucks/ground hogs. It would also just be a hoot for accurate plinking.

I don't have a dog in this fight; I probably won't pick up a rifle in this caliber for my own use for a while due to finances and the longer ranges for hunting out here in the high desert.

If ground hogs, eastern whitetail, or mujahaden are on your dance card you should give this round a look.

Hornady annouced they would be producing the 6.8. I talked to one of their engineers and asked how it was going. He indicated that it wasn't becuase Remington was having difficulties with the cartridge. Don't know what that means, but there might be a delay before they start selling it. T/C says they have a pile of barrels for it, but there is not ammo available.

I think it will be a great kids gun. Remington will be loading the same bonded bullet that they use in their reduced velocity ammo.

The first powder that Remington tried to use was not getting the job done. They went to a new powder from a different company; that is working like gang busters. To their credit they didn't go with an unsatisfactory product.

The Model 7 that Remington will be chambering is out of the custom shop. Remington did not add the 6.8 to their regular line. They did have a shot show special based on the light varmint gun with a painted stock and blackened barrel.

Tentman: the 6.8spc is actually based on the 30 Rem, an obsolete cartridge Rem once offered in their old semi-auto (can't remember the mod #).
Clymer offers reamers, so you should be able to find dimensions on their site.
