Over here, a good old 308 Win. You should post the question: What case would you pick to wildcat if you could pick only one? Put that on the wildcat section and stand by. Give me COFFEE and nobody gets hurt

Nah, everyone is up on the latest slam bang wunderkid caliber that really can not do a single thing the 30-06 or 375 can't already do. Even the rocks don't last forever.

There's plenty of things that can do things the 30-06 or 375 can do with less drop, drift, etc. While people dismiss this, for SOME of the population this is an advantage. Just because something comes first and gets the job done well doesn't mean it is the "best" by any means. Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too! Recent college grad, started a company called MK Machining where I'm developing a bullpup rifle chassis system.

That ain't a rifle - it's a cartridge. L1A1 for me.

Although I don't own one, I think the 300 H&H would be a really good one caliber battery.

You know, your correct, except I ain't seen a whole bunch of pitols chambered for the round, except TC Contenders. So, with that in mind, and the popularity of the cartridge, it has to be chambered in something now doesn't it. From my limited amount of experience, I have only seen it chambered in rifles, and since I have seen the cartridge offered by every rifle manufacturer, ergo a 375 H&H rifle is a proper way of referring to it. I'm voting for the Remington Model 700 Classic chambered in 6.5x55 Swedish just to drive Mackey crazy!

Since this is the medium bore forum and the question has been asked on the big bore forum which, out of necesity, garnered different answers, the asumption has to be made that it is less than DG on the menue so from rabbit to moose I would use my 7x57 and be confident to go hunt. Cast 160gn at 1900fps for rabbits, plinkingetc and cast softnose at 2415for small to medium game up to 250yds, 120gn GS Customs at 3235fps for distance and 160gn Woodleigh at 2700fps for every thing else. That is what I do now and it works very well. Von Gruff.

Well I guess if only one rifle is all then it has to be powerful enough to deal with the largest possible quarry, so I'll have one of these: RN Rifle

Since there is no such thing as only owning 1 rifle in my code of ethics. I will classify my hunting area. If only North Dakota- 257DGR The rest of the world- 300 Win Mag- I have no plans for the Big 5, too $$$.

A 100 gr Barnes X from a 257DGR into the Heart lung area tips a bison over. A young man who was courting my daughter raised bison and we tried a few different cartridges. The 35 Whelen AI puts one down much quicker.

I can load it to full bore for most anything or down to 308 levels. Love my 30/378 Weatherby. When loaded with the right projectile for the specific species, what it won't do, I don't need. The 30-06, its the holy grail. It has proven itself on rabbits to elephant and thousands of times. I have seen it used on both, it is a truly amazing cartridge. but of course I am boring you with truth, so I will bow out. No need to bow out, I am not a fan of the 30-06, prefer the 375, but everything you stated is as truthful as it gets. The 30-06 has killed every animal that walks this planet at some point since its birth. Even the rocks don't last forever.

Anything that routinely only produces a 90% kill ratio on deer can not be considered for an all around rifle.

A tough question. I have 3 6.5x55's, 2 30-06's and one 375wby. I shoot the 375 the least. For all continents other than Africa, the 30-06. If Africa is thrown in the mix, the 375wby - you shoot the HH in a pinch. Never follow a bad move with a stupid move.
