I have a Model 700 in a long action that use to be a 30/06 that I rebarreled to 6mm Rem with a heavy sporter barrel, with a 1 in 7 twist. Like Cal Sibley I have found that medium burn rate powders work best in the 57 mm cases. IMR 4064, IMR4895, and RL 15 being my favorites across the board. Rl 19 has proven to be the most accurate with mine when using the 105, 107 and 115 grain target bullets. My load is 46 grains of RL 19 ( work up gang!) For the 115 Bergers it is giving me a MV of 3250 so it is working. I am POINTING OUT THO, that this rifle is on a long action, so I had it reamed to accept bullets that will fit the magazine. These target bullets are seated to WAY OUT THERE. My 6mm Rem is a one hole shooter, if the Bozo pulling the trigger can get his act together for the day! Cheers and Good shooting seafire

Mine is a custom 1909 Arg. Mauser with a Hobaugh barrel (circa 1968)and it is the most accurate gun I own. 47 grains Reloder 22, 100 grain Nosler plain base, and CCI primer is my deer hunting load, but it's not fussy. It'll shoot loads with 80 & 90 grain bullets just as well. I'd love to have a Ruger #1 in this caliber.

Well, I am probably going to put my foot in the mouth here, but what the heck? A good 700VLS in most any caliber should be capable of shooting groups in the 3/4 MOA range. I do not think you will have too much trouble getting this kind of accuracy with a 700VLS in 6mm Remington. Now comes the scary part. As much as I hate to argue with the likes of Cal Sibley or Seafire (people who's posts I read with interest at every chance) I get my best accuracy with slower burning powders than they do. I literaly learned to shoot with an old Remington 722 chambered in 244 Remington. We shot nothing but surplus H 4831 in it because that is what we had. It never failed to kill anything I aimed it at "if I did my part". I currently own a custom rifle chambered for 6mm Remington. It is on a short action 700 Remington. It wears a "heavy" Shilen SS barrel. It is pillar bedded in a McMillan stock and has a Jewell trigger. It is fitted with a Leupold 6.5 X 20 target model. It has a tight neck chamber (0.269). This rifle is capable of honest to God 0.25 inch five shot groups at 100 yards, again, when I do my part. But it shoots best with either H 4350 or IMR 4831. I tried H 4895, Varget, etc. but it does best with H 4350 and IMR 4831, clearly! It also clearly likes the Federal 210M primer. Anyway, you will just have to play around and see what your gun likes. The only bullets I had good luck with when using fast burning powder on the order of H 4895 were the 58 grain Hornady V-Max's. R F
