I have always thought the 140 to be the ideal weight for the 6.5.My load , with various 140s, has been 46 Grains of 4350. This gives 2733 chronographed from my 24" custom M98.It has a 1-9" twist ,well under 1"groups and no pressure signs. After years of use I agree it's the perfect deer cartridge !!

I am still in load development with my CZ. Mine is not full stocked but otherwise the same rifle.

I can give you a suggestion on cheap range ammo that shoots well. Try the Igman 139 gr. For $5.95 a box you can't go wrong. I broke mine in with it, and was getting around 1 MOA.

The bad on my CZ is I wish the barrel was a little heavier profile, its just to light and whippy to get good 5 shot groups. Mine strings the last couple of shots unless I let the barrel cool.

Anyway a source on the ammo:

I want to try the Lapua 139 gr bullets, anybody tried these?

Thanks, schromf,

I have the same problem with a whippy-barrelled 30-06 Husqvarna. I love the gun, but I haven't been able to make it shoot yet. I haven't done a lot of loading for it, as it had some mechanical and scope problems I had to take care of first. Also, I was trying 180gr bullets, and it has a 1:12" twist instead of the common 1:10".

Anyway, one suggestion I got was to shim the barrel near the end of the forend, as this will change the harmonics of the barrel. Might work in your CZ, too. I'm going to try it once I get some 150gr loads done for it.

I have a Remington 700 Classic in 6.5x55, and it's quite the accurate rifle, especially if I reload with the Scandanavian components - Lapua Scenar bullets and VihtaVouri powders. However I'll never know why in hell Remington uses a 1 in 9" twist in the barrels. 1 in 8" is much preferred by knowledgeable shooters, maybe even 1 in 7 1/2 in order to stabilize the desired 140gr. projectiles. Stll it's an excellent cartridge. Best wishes.

I thought Remington chose the 1:9 twist as it would support the 140g bullet, the "heaviest most North Americans would be interested in firing." I could be wrong, or Remington could have been wrong.

In any case, my Win/USRAC M70 likes the Hornady 129g better than any of the 140g choices, which would be my preference. I planned to try out the 125g Nosler Partition, but there seems to be a shorage of them right now.

140 NP
48grs Re 22, 51 grs Re 25

Work up to these loads especially 48 Re 22. Can be hot in some guns.

Also I would take a look at Norma Oryx 156grs bullets. Drop 1-2 grs of the Re 22 load and stop when you see 2550 over your skyscreens. Or use 50,5grs Re 25 with a nicer pressure curve

One of the best deer calibers around.
